What Does This Mean?

This IRS reject code, FW2-502, is basically saying that the Employer Identification Number (EIN) you entered from your W-2 doesn't match what the IRS has on file. The rejection message will show the last four digits of the EIN in question, so you know exactly which W-2 is causing the issue.

How to Fix It

Here's a simple checklist to get you back on track:

  1. Double-Check Your Entry: Carefully compare the EIN you entered in Taxslayer with the EIN on your W-2. Even a tiny typo can cause a rejection. If you find a mistake, correct it and resubmit your return.

  2. Verify with Your Employer: If the EIN in Taxslayer matches your W-2, reach out to your employer or the company that issued the W-2. Ask them to double-check the EIN on their end and provide you with a corrected W-2 if necessary.

  3. Consider Form 4852: If you can't get a corrected W-2 in time, you can file Form 4852, "Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement," with your return. This form allows you to estimate your wages and taxes withheld based on your best knowledge.
