Monitoring Scope

Wash sale exclusions apply across the entire Account Group.

Exclusion Timing

Exclusions remain active:

  • 30 days after harvest
    OR

  • Until manually removed

Replacement Purchase Logic

Model-Managed

Replacement bought by the system at the next trade build.

Managed Portfolio

Requires manual rebalance. Proceeds stay in cash until rebalanced.

Reopen Logic

Model-Managed

Automatically realigns.

Managed Portfolio

Requires manual rebalance.

🧩 VSP vs Non-VSP Operational Behavior

VSP Behavior

Allows:

  • Specific lot harvesting

  • Partial lots

  • Greater tax precision

Non-VSP Behavior

Custodian controls:

  • Lot relief methodology

  • Final realized gains/losses

🧩 Harvest Rule Logic

Lot-Level Rules

Evaluates:

  • Individual lots

Common Support Issue

Lot-level rules on non-VSP custodians may produce unexpected realized gains.

If Reopen after wash sale period is disabled:

  • Exclusions remain indefinitely until removed

Advisor expects automatic reopening but did not enable:

  • “Reopen After Wash Sale Period”

Common Support Issue

Advisor expects the replacement security to be bought automatically in a Managed Portfolio sleeve. Managed Portfolio sleeves require a rebalance after the harvest to buy the replacement, and again after the wash sale period to buy back the original.
