How to Set Up Recording on the Softbox 4
The Softbox 4 allows you to record live TV and scheduled programs using an external USB flash drive.
Before using the recording feature, you must first configure a USB flash drive as storage for the Softbox 4. Follow the steps below carefully.
What You Need
You will need:
A USB flash drive
We recommend a 128 GB USB flash drive or larger
A reliable brand such as SanDisk is recommended
Once the USB flash drive is configured, it will become part of the Softbox 4's storage system.
IMPORTANT: After setting up the USB drive as device storage, leave it connected to your Softbox 4. Removing it may cause Drivemob 3 or other apps to stop working correctly.
Part 1: Set Up the USB Flash Drive
Step 1: Connect the USB Drive
Plug your USB flash drive into the USB port on your Softbox 4.
Step 2: Open Android Settings
From the Softbox 4 home screen:
Open Android Settings
Select Device Preferences
Select Storage
Under Removable Storage, you should see the USB flash drive you connected.
The name of your drive may be different depending on the brand you purchased.
Step 3: Format the USB Drive
Select your USB flash drive.
Choose:
Erase & format as device storage
Then select:
Format
The Softbox will format the USB flash drive so it can be used as internal device storage.
WARNING: Formatting the USB drive will erase anything currently stored on it.
Step 4: Move Data to the USB Drive
After formatting is complete, select:
Move now
The Softbox will move some of its existing data onto the USB drive.
This may take several minutes depending on how much data is already stored on your Softbox.
Once complete, the USB drive should appear under Device Storage.
Part 2: Configure Drivemob 3 for Recording
Now that the USB drive is ready, you need to tell Drivemob 3 where to save recordings.
Step 1: Open Drivemob 3
Open the Drivemob 3 app.
Go to:
Settings
Then scroll down to the Recording section.
Step 2: Change the Recordings Folder
Select:
Recordings folder
The first time you do this, Android may ask you to allow Drivemob 3 access to files on the device.
Select:
Settings
Find Drivemob 3 and enable:
Allow access to manage all files
Then return to Drivemob 3.
Open:
Recordings folder
again.
Step 3: Select the Movies Folder
Scroll through the available folders until you find:
Movies
Select the Movies folder.
Then select:
Select folder
Your recording directory is now configured.
Part 3: Recommended Recording Settings
Inside the Recording settings, we recommend adjusting the recording buffer.
Set Drivemob 3 to:
Start recording 5 minutes before the scheduled program
Stop recording 5 minutes after the scheduled program
This helps prevent the beginning or ending of a program from being cut off if the broadcast schedule is slightly different from the TV guide.
You can increase these times if you prefer, but longer recording times will use more storage space.
Part 4: Record a Program from the TV Guide
To schedule a recording:
Open the TV Guide
Find the program you want to record
Select the program
Choose Record
A recording symbol should appear beside the program.
This indicates that the program has been scheduled to record.
The first time you record, Android may ask you to enable an additional permission for Drivemob 3.
If this happens:
Select Settings
Find Drivemob 3
Enable the requested permission
Return to Drivemob 3
Select Record again
Part 5: Create a Custom or Repeating Recording
Drivemob 3 also allows you to create a custom recording schedule.
This is useful when you want to record something that comes on at the same time every week.
To create a custom recording:
Find the channel or program
Open the recording options
Select Custom Recording
You can then configure:
Start Date
Start Time
Duration
Repeat Schedule
Recording Name
For example, if a program comes on every Tuesday, you can configure the recording to repeat every Tuesday automatically.
Once everything is configured, select:
Schedule Recording
Part 6: Record Live TV
You can also record a program that is currently playing.
To record live TV:
Select the channel or program currently playing
Choose Record
Drivemob 3 will immediately begin recording.
A recording indicator will appear to show that recording is active.
Important: Simultaneous Connections
Drivemob allows up to three simultaneous connections.
Each active stream or recording uses a connection.
For example:
Recording one channel = 1 connection
Watching another channel = 1 additional connection
Recording another channel = 1 additional connection
In this example, all three connections would be in use.
Keep this in mind when recording multiple programs while also watching live TV.
Part 7: Stop a Recording
To stop a recording that is currently in progress:
Find the program that is recording
Press and hold the program
Select Stop Recording
The recording will stop immediately.
Part 8: Watch Your Recordings
To watch something you recorded:
Open the Drivemob 3 side menu
Select Recordings
Select the recording you want to watch
Your saved recordings will appear in this section.
Part 9: Delete Recordings
Recordings can take up a large amount of storage space over time.
To delete a recording:
Open Recordings
Find the recording you want to remove
Select the Trash Can icon
Confirm the deletion
Deleting recordings will free up space on your USB flash drive.
Part 10: Manage Scheduled Recordings
You can also view recordings that are scheduled for the future.
Open the Recordings section and locate your scheduled recordings.
From here, you can review or cancel recordings that you no longer want.
Part 11: Check USB Storage Space
If you record a lot of television, your USB drive may eventually begin to fill up.
You can check your available storage using Cx File Explorer.
Open:
Cx File Explorer
The first time you open it:
Follow the setup prompts
Select Next
Allow the requested permissions
You will then be able to see how much storage space is currently being used.
If your USB drive is getting full, delete old recordings that you no longer need.
Very Important: Do Not Remove the USB Drive
Once the USB flash drive has been formatted as Device Storage, it becomes part of the Softbox 4's storage system.
Do not unplug or remove the USB drive after setup.
Removing it may cause:
Drivemob 3 to stop opening
Other apps to stop working
Recordings to become unavailable
Problems with the Softbox operating system
Once the recording USB drive has been configured, leave it connected to the Softbox 4 at all times.
Quick Recording Checklist
Before recording, make sure:
Your USB flash drive is connected
The USB drive has been formatted as Device Storage
