App not installed

Clear space on your device if you get the message: "App not installed" when trying to install an app.

If apps are not installing, it is because they have an old version installed, Or because there is No space to install. Follow these instructions to clear up space and uninstall your apps.

Follow the instructions for your specific device below:
Click on the correct device below:

Softbox 3, Softbox Go, Chromecast, Android TV, Android

Step 1: Check Available Storage

First, check how much storage space is left on your device.

Open Settings

You can get to Settings in two ways:

  • Press the Settings (Gear) button at the top-right of your remote
    OR

  • Navigate to the gear icon at the top of the screen

Both options take you to the same place.

Check Storage

  1. Go to All Settings

  2. Select System

  3. Choose Storage

Here you’ll see:

  • Total Storage

  • Available Storage

If your available storage is very low or shows 0 GB available, your storage is full and needs to be cleaned up.

Step 2: Clear Cached Data

Cached files can build up over time and take up unnecessary space.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Storage

  2. Select Internal Storage

  3. Choose Free Up Storage

  4. Select Clear Cache

This removes temporary files and can instantly free up space.

Step 3: Uninstall Apps You Don’t Use

Unused apps can take up a surprising amount of storage.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps

  2. Review installed apps

  3. Remove apps you do not use

Recommended Apps to Keep

If you mainly use your Softbox for Drivemob and LimePie, you typically only need:

  • iMPlayer

  • Surfshark VPN (if you use it)

You can safely uninstall apps such as:

  • Netflix

  • Hulu

  • Amazon Prime Video

  • Other unused streaming apps

Removing unnecessary apps can free up a lot of space.

Step 4: Reinstall iMPlayer (If Needed)

If iMPlayer has become unusually large (for example, over 200 MB), it may need to be cleaned up.

The easiest solution is to uninstall and reinstall it.

To Reinstall iMPlayer

  1. Hold down the Microphone button on your remote

  2. Say:

“Google Play Store”

  1. Open the Google Play Store

  2. Select the Search icon (magnifying glass)

  3. Type:

IM Player

  1. Select iMPlayer

  2. Choose Install

Good news: Your account should automatically log back in. You should not need your code or credentials.

Step 5: Remove Downloaded Files (Advanced Cleanup)

If you’re still low on storage, install a File Manager app to manually remove downloaded files.

Install File Manager

  1. Open the Google Play Store

  2. Open it

  3. Allow any permissions it requests

To delete:

  • Highlight the file

  • Hold the center/select button

  • Choose Delete

  • Select Permanently Delete

Remove leftover installer files or APKs that are no longer needed.

These often take up unnecessary storage space.

Step 6: Delete Recorded Videos

If you use recording features in iMPlayer, recordings can quickly fill up your storage.

  1. Open File Manager

  2. Go to Videos

  3. Delete old recordings you no longer need

To delete:

  • Highlight the video

  • Hold the center/select button

  • Choose Delete

  • Select Permanently Delete

This can free up a significant amount of space.

Step 7: Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If you’ve tried everything above and apps still won’t install, a Factory Reset may be needed.

⚠️ Important: This should only be done as a last resort.

Before You Reset

You will need a new iMPlayer activation code after the reset.

Please send us a message after resetting your Softbox so we can create a new code for you. This usually takes less than 24 hours.

How to Factory Reset

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select System

  3. Choose About

  4. Select Factory Reset

  5. Choose Erase Everything

Your Softbox will restart and return to factory settings.

Setting Your Box Back Up

After a reset, you’ll need to:

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi

  2. Sign into your Google/Gmail account

  3. Open the Google Play Store

  4. Reinstall iMPlayer

  5. Enter the activation code we provide
