How Can I Tell If an Athlete Responds Better to Rewards or Punishments?

Updated over a month ago

Athlete sensitivity to rewards and punishment can be assessed in two ways:

1. Psychological Tests

Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS): Measures how strongly an athlete responds to punishment and negative feedback.

Behavioral Activation System (BAS): Measures how sensitive an athlete is to rewards and positive reinforcement.

2. Observation During Training

Apply + Audio or Visual Mode: Use positive auditory or visual feedback and observe if the athlete improves.

Apply - Audio or Visual Mode: Use negative auditory or visual feedback and see if the athlete adjusts their performance.

Using both methods together provides a deeper insight into an athlete’s motivation, helping you customize training strategies for maximum effectiveness.
