How Does Reward and Punishment Sensitivity Affect Athletes?

Updated over a month ago

Some athletes respond better to rewards, while others respond more to punishment.

High Reward Sensitivity: These athletes thrive on positive feedback. They are motivated when their successes are reinforced, which builds confidence and consistency.

High Punishment Sensitivity: These athletes learn best from negative feedback. They adapt quickly to avoid mistakes, building mental toughness and resilience under pressure.

Example: If an athlete improves after receiving negative feedback, they likely have high punishment sensitivity. If they improve after praise or encouragement, they are more reward-sensitive.
