One of our most powerful and useful features is Smart Playlists: dynamic, search-based lists of songs that save you the hassle of grouping songs together by hand. With 30+ fields to search with - from album and artist to genres and tags - there are thousands of possible Smart Playlist combinations.

Making playlists in Songspace is usually a manual process that involves searching, dragging, and dropping songs. But it doesn't have to - thanks to Smart Playlists, you can create a set of rules and then have Songspace automatically create a playlist out of the songs that match those rules. These are updated automatically when your Songspace catalog changes. For example, if your Smart Playlist is set up to contain only songs rated with 5 stars, whenever you rate a new song with 5 stars it adds that song to the playlist automatically.

Here are some other use cases where Smart Playlists may prove to be helpful:

  • Artist & Writer Playlists: If you're managing a catalog, especially a large one, you can probably relate to the tediousness involved in making sure everything in your catalog is organized. If you set up a Smart Playlist for a certain artist or writer, every time a song is added to Songspace that has that writer or artist credited it will automatically be added to their corresponding Smart Playlist - eliminating any room for errors and also saving you time.

  • Identifying Data Gaps: Smart Playlists can also be used to identify holes in your catalog and put you in a better position to go about resolving those holes. For example, you can set your Smart Playlist to automatically pull in songs that do not have a Creation Date. As you add creation dates to the included songs, they will automatically be removed from the playlist.

  • Frequent Searches: Do you find yourself searching for the same songs over and over again? For example, maybe you're constantly trying to find songs that contain "love" in the lyrics that are also tagged "uptempo". You can save yourself the steps of having to type that into your search bar and create a Smart Playlist that automatically populates these results for you instead. From that point on, all you'll have to do is click on your Smart Playlist and boom - there are the songs you're looking for.
