If your teachers or students see this message when trying to log in with Google:
Access blocked: Your institution's admin needs to review Speakable
It means your Google Workspace administrator needs to approve Speakable as a trusted third-party app. Google has recently tightened security settings for users—especially those under 18—so apps like Speakable must be explicitly approved before sign-in is allowed.
Share the steps below with your school or district IT team to enable access.
For Google Workspace Admins: How to Approve Speakable
Go to the Google Admin console.
On the home screen, find the App access control card.
You’ll see:
Apps pending review: Apps users (especially under 18) have requested access to.
User requests: Number of users who tried to access each app.
Click Review apps.
Locate Speakable in the list (sorted by request volume) and click the app name to view more info.
Click Configure access.
Select the organizational units (OUs) where you want to allow access (e.g., students, teachers).
Note: You can select up to 10 OUs at a time. Use bulk update if more are needed.
Under Access to Google data, choose one of the following:
Trusted: Users can sign in and Speakable can access both restricted and unrestricted Google data.
Limited: Users can sign in, but Speakable can only access unrestricted Google data.
Blocked: Users cannot sign in and no data is shared.
Click Continue, then Confirm to apply the settings.
Additional Notes
If no action is taken within 6 months, the app will be removed from the pending list.
