TL;DR
The Free plan includes 100 AI credits each month. You can top up anytime with credit packs that never expire. A $50 pack (5,000 credits) covers about 83 rubric-graded Open Response assignments for one classroom.
What are AI credits?
AI credits power advanced grading and feedback on specific page types (e.g., Spoken/Written Open Response, Short Answer).
When credits are deducted: when you assign or schedule an activity to a classroom.
What determines the cost: the grading method(s) you select on AI-eligible pages × the number of classrooms you assign to.
What does not change cost: number of students and student retries.
You’ll always see the cost before assigning:
In the builder footer (“This activity will use …”)
On the Assign Activity → AI Credits Summary panel
How many credits does each grading method use? (Open Response)
Grading method | Credits per classroom |
Pass/Fail | 20 |
Standards-Based | 40 |
Rubric | 60 |
Rule of thumb:
Total credits = (20/40/60 per eligible page) × (number of eligible pages in the activity) × (number of classrooms)
Quick estimate example: 2 rubric pages × 3 classes → 60 × 2 × 3 = 360
credits.
Heads-up: If your activity has multiple AI-eligible pages, we add the page costs together per classroom.
What can I do with $50 of credits?
Top-Off credit packs (never expire):
500 credits – $10
1,000 credits – $15
5,000 credits – $50
$50 (5,000 credits) gets you roughly:
Rubric (60) → 83 assignments (5,000 ÷ 60)
Standards-Based (40) → 125 assignments (5,000 ÷ 40)
Pass/Fail (20) → 250 assignments (5,000 ÷ 20)
These counts assume one Open Response page per activity and one classroom. Assigning to 3 classes? Divide those numbers by 3.
How to purchase credits
Go to Profile → Settings → Plans → Get More Credits
Click Add New Card.
Choose a pack (500, 1,000, or 5,000 credits).
Confirm your purchase — your balance updates instantly and never expires.
You can see your current balance on the Plan screen and in Assign Activity → AI Credits Summary.
Credits (pay-as-you-go) vs. a plan: which should I choose?
Choose credits (pay-as-you-go) if you:
Assign AI-graded work occasionally or seasonally.
Prefer no recurring fee and credits that never expire.
Want precise control over which assignments use AI grading.
Consider a plan if you:
Assign AI-graded activities weekly or across many classrooms.
Want included monthly credits plus collaboration/admin/reporting features (varies by plan).
Not sure? Start with a 5,000-credit ($50) pack. If you’re topping up more than once per semester, we can help you pick a plan that fits.
Examples
Single class, rubric grading
1 Open Response page, 1 classroom → 60 credits.Two classes, standards-based
1 Open Response page, 2 classrooms → 40 × 2 = 80 credits.Three classes, pass/fail + rubric page
1 Pass/Fail page (20) + 1 Rubric page (60) = 80 per class → 80 × 3 = 240 credits.
FAQs
Do credits get used if students never open the assignment?
Credits are deducted when you assign or schedule the activity (per classroom), not when students submit.
Do class size or student retries affect credits?
No. Credits are not per student and retries don’t change the cost.
If I delete or unassign an activity after assigning, do I get credits back?
Yes. If you delete or unassign an activity before any student opens it in a classroom, we automatically refund the credits for that classroom to the original balance used
Can I see the exact total before I commit?
Yes. The Assign Activity modal shows the AI Credits Summary with the exact total.
