Specter MCP Installation Guide - ChatGPT

Written by Rishi Clark

Install the Specter Plugin

Specter is available as a plugin in the ChatGPT plugin directory. Once installed, you can search companies, people and investors, pull funding history, revenue and valuation estimates, competitors and news, and save results to lists or saved searches, all inside your ChatGPT conversation.

You need a Specter account to use the plugin. If your team already uses the Specter MCP with another AI client, the plugin gives you the same tools in ChatGPT with no manual setup.

Installing the plugin

1. Find Specter in the ChatGPT plugin directory and click Install plugin.

2. Click Sign in with Specter. A Specter login window opens.

3. You'll be asked to allow ChatGPT access to SpecterMCP, click Allow and proceed to login. Log in to Specter when prompted, then click Allow. This lets ChatGPT verify your identity against your Specter account. The service is shown as SpecterMCP, which is what powers the plugin.

4. You'll be redirected back to ChatGPT. Click Try in chat. The Specter Plugin will be preloaded in your chat and you can start searching. Whenever you want to use the Specter plugin simply open the + menu in the message box and you'll see Specter in the list at the bottom.

Usage and limits

Every Specter user gets 100 MCP tool calls per day, shared across all AI clients including ChatGPT. A workspace admin can allow extra calls to draw from your team's API credits. See Specter MCP: Usage & Pricing for the details.
