When a Contest is Cancelled Due to Low Entries (Automatically)

Why Splash Sports automatically cancels contests with too few entries, how refunds work, and what you can do.

Updated over a week ago

If a contest doesn't have enough participants relative to its payout spots, Splash Sports will automatically cancel it before it begins. Here's exactly how that works.

When Is a Contest Automatically Cancelled?

A resizable contest is automatically cancelled at the entry deadline if the number of entries is less than the number of payout spots.

For example: if a contest has 3 payout spots and only 2 people entered, the contest cannot run β€” everyone would receive a prize, which isn't a valid competition. So it's cancelled and all entry fees are refunded.

If the number of entries equals or exceeds the number of payout spots, the contest runs as normal (potentially resized).

Does This Apply to All Contests?

This automatic cancellation rule applies to resizable private contests. Public contests are not resized and may have different cancellation rules.

What Happens to Entry Fees?

  • All entry fees are automatically refunded to participants' Splash wallets

  • Refunds appear in your wallet immediately after cancellation

  • You can withdraw those funds or use them for another contest

How to Prevent a Low-Entry Cancellation

  • Send invites early and follow up with your group before the entry deadline

  • Consider reducing the number of payout spots if your group is smaller than expected

  • Use Commissioner tab β†’ Manage β†’ Invites Manager to resend the invite link
