Will I receive a tax form for my winnings?
Yes. If you earn $600 or more in net winnings in a calendar year, Splash Sports is required to issue you a 1099-MISC form. You will receive this form by January 31 of the following year.
I'm a commissioner β do I get a 1099 too?
Yes. Commissioners who earn $600 or more in commissioner rewards in a calendar year will also receive a 1099-MISC from Splash Sports.
What about W-2G forms?
A W-2G is required when a single contest payout meets certain IRS thresholds β generally $600 or more in winnings from a single event where the payout is at least 300 times the entry fee. If your winnings qualify, Splash will issue a W-2G in addition to or instead of a 1099-MISC depending on your situation. You will receive this form by January 31 of the following year.
If you believe you should have received a W-2G and haven't, contact support@splashsports.com with your account email and the relevant tax year.
What is Form 5754 and how do I submit it?
Form 5754 is an IRS form used when contest winnings are shared among multiple people and only one person received the prize. It tells Splash how to divide and report the winnings across all participants so that W-2G or 1099 forms are issued accurately to each person.
If you need to submit a Form 5754 for a Splash contest payout, email it to support@splashsports.com with the following information:
Your account email address
The contest name and approximate payout date
The completed Form 5754 as an attachment
Our team will forward it to the appropriate accounting contacts for processing. Please allow additional time for review during tax season.
How do I access my tax documents?
Tax documents are typically mailed and/or made available electronically. If you believe you should have received a 1099 but haven't, contact our support team at support@splashsports.com with your account email and the tax year in question.
Is it my responsibility to report contest winnings on my taxes?
Yes. All contest winnings are considered taxable income under U.S. tax law, regardless of whether you receive a 1099 form. Splash Sports is not a tax advisor β if you have specific questions about how to report your winnings, we recommend consulting a qualified tax professional.
What information does Splash use to issue my 1099?
Splash Sports uses the name, address, and Social Security Number (SSN) or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) associated with your verified account. This is why account verification (KYC) is required before you can withdraw funds. If your information changes, please update your account details and contact support to ensure your tax documents are accurate.
I received a 1099 but I think the amount is wrong β what do I do?
If you believe there is an error on your 1099, contact us at support@splashsports.com with your account email and a description of the discrepancy. Our team will review your account and work with you to resolve any issues as quickly as possible.
