⚖️ Legal & Eligibility

Where is Splash Sports legal?
Splash Sports is legal in most U.S. states and Canada. Real-money contests are available in 30+ states. Check the state availability map for your location.

Can I play if I live in a restricted state?
Yes — your physical location at the time of entry determines eligibility, not your state of residence. If you're physically in a legal state, you can enter a contest. After entering, you can make picks from anywhere.

Is Splash Sports gambling?
No. Splash runs licensed games of skill and daily fantasy contests — no bets are placed against the house. This is why we're legal in states where traditional sports betting is not.

Can I play for free?
Yes. Entertainment-only contests (no real money involved) are available in all 50 U.S. states and Canada with no restrictions.

Why is my account temporarily restricted?
Restrictions are triggered by rapid location changes, VPN use, or multiple accounts. If restricted: wait 1 hour, make sure your VPN is off, and try again. Splash enforces a strict one-account-per-user policy.

Tips for avoiding location errors:

  • Turn off any VPN — these are not permitted

  • Disable ad blockers

  • Enable location services in your browser and device

  • Use Google Chrome for best results

  • Switch to home Wi-Fi or cellular data (avoid corporate/secured networks)

  • If issues persist, try a different device

👤 Account Setup

How do I sign up?
Create an account at splashsports.com or the mobile app. If you're coming from RunYourPool or OfficeFootballPool, you can sign in with your existing credentials — no new account needed.

Why do I need to verify my identity?
Identity verification (KYC) is required before depositing or joining real-money contests. We collect your name, date of birth, and address to confirm your age and state eligibility. This is a legal requirement.

What is a handle?
Your handle is your username — how other players identify you in contests and on leaderboards. You set it when creating your account.

🏆 Contests

What's the difference between entertainment-only and real-money contests?

  • Entertainment-only: For fun, no real money. Available everywhere. The commissioner collects entry fees outside of Splash and pays a platform service fee.

  • Real-money (Splash-managed): Splash collects entry fees, handles payouts, and ensures full compliance. Legal in 30+ states.

How do I create a contest?

  1. Log in at splashsports.com or the mobile app

  2. Click "Create a Contest"

  3. Choose your sport and format (Survivor, Pick X, Tiers, One & Done)

  4. Set entry fee, payout structure, and player limit

  5. Share the invite link with your group

All contests are private by default — players must have the link to join.

How do I set my contest size?
Set your max entries when creating the contest. You can resize down later if it doesn't fill — but not up. Tip: Set it 20–30% larger than expected to leave room for growth.

What if my contest doesn't fill?
The prize pool automatically adjusts to match the number of entries received.

Can players submit multiple entries?
Yes — you can enable multiple entries per player in your contest settings.

What payout structures are available?

  • Overall contest winner(s)

  • Tournament-style payouts

  • Weekly payouts (NFL and NCAAF only)

  • In-season segment payouts

Can I test a format before launching a full season?
Yes. For NFL, formats go live mid-July and you can create a test contest any time after that.

Can I make my contest public?
All contests are private by default. Select partners and VIP Commissioners can request lobby visibility. Contact vip@splashsports.com for more info.

💳 Deposits, Payments & Fees

What deposit methods are accepted?

  • Debit card

  • Credit card

  • ACH transfer

  • Venmo

  • PayPal

  • Crypto (BTC, ETH, USDC, SOL, XRP and more — web/desktop only; not available in IN, MA, MI, or NJ)

Minimum deposit: $10 USD.

Where is my money held?
All funds are stored in a separate MVB bank account through Splash Player Reserve, LLC — the same banking partner used by FanDuel. Splash cannot access these funds.

Are there state deposit limits?
Yes, some states have legal monthly deposit limits:

  • Maryland: $5,000/month

  • Tennessee: $2,500/month

  • Massachusetts: $1,000/month

To request a limit increase, contact support@splashsports.com.

Does Splash charge a fee?
Yes — Splash takes a 10% rake of the prize pool per contest. If you're a commissioner enrolled in Commissioner Rewards, the rake is 12.5% (7.5% to Splash, 5% back to you). The prize amount is always shown upfront before you enter.

📄 Taxes & Reporting

Will I get a tax form for my winnings?
Yes. If you earn $600 or more in a calendar year, you'll receive a 1099-MISC from Splash Sports.

Will I get a tax form as a Commissioner?
Yes. Commissioners earning $600+ annually also receive a 1099-MISC. Note: PayPal, Venmo, and similar platforms may also send a 1099-K if you receive $5,000+ in payments — a threshold that may soon drop to $600.

Is it legal to run paid contests on other platforms?
Running paid contests through entertainment-only platforms is not legally compliant. Splash ensures you're properly covered with legal compliance and tax documentation.

🏅 Commissioner Rewards

Can I earn money as a commissioner?
Yes. Commissioners earn 5% of the rake Splash collects from each contest they run. In 2024, Splash paid out over $500,000 in commissioner rewards.

Is there a referral program?
Yes — earn $10 in Splash credit for every new user you refer through the Refer a Friend program.

Can I email my players through Splash?
Not directly through the platform. VIP Commissioners can request an email export to send messages externally. All outreach must follow Splash's Privacy Policy.
