Scoring Errors & Score Changes β€” How Contest Results Finalize πŸ“Š

How scoring finalizes on Splash Sports, why scores can change after a game, timelines by sport, and what to do if you think there's a scoring error in your contest.

Updated this week

If you believe your entry was scored incorrectly β€” or your standing changed unexpectedly β€” here's how scoring works, when it finalizes, and what to do if you think there's been an error.

How Scoring Works on Splash Sports

Splash Sports pulls official scores and stats from licensed data providers. Results are not manually entered β€” they update automatically as games conclude. However, scores go through a finalization process before standings are locked and payouts are issued, which means:

  • Scores may appear preliminary during or shortly after a game, and can shift until officially confirmed

  • In some cases, stats or outcomes are adjusted after the fact if the official data provider issues a correction β€” this is normal and outside Splash's control

  • Standings and leaderboards update in real time as data comes in, so what you see mid-event may differ slightly from the final result

When Are Results Final?

Results are considered final once the contest moves from Active to Final and payouts have been distributed. The timeline varies by contest type:

  • NFL, NBA, NHL Pick'em / Survivor β€” typically finalized within a few hours after the last game of the week concludes

  • PGA One & Done / Tiers β€” finalized after the final round scores are confirmed (usually the Monday or Tuesday after the tournament ends)

  • MLB β€” finalized within a few hours after the game concludes

If your contest is still showing as Active, scoring may still be in progress. Check back once the contest moves to Final.

Think There's a Scoring Error?

If your contest is Final and you believe the result is wrong β€” for example, you think you should have advanced but were marked eliminated, or your score doesn't match what you expect β€” here's what to do:

  1. Check the official result first. Verify the game outcome or player stat using an official source (NFL.com, ESPN, PGA Tour, etc.) to confirm what actually happened.

  2. Review your contest's scoring rules. Go to the Rules tab in your contest to confirm exactly what counts as a win, an advance, or a scored point β€” the rules can vary by contest.

  3. Contact support if the discrepancy persists. Email support@splashsports.com with:

    • Your account email address

    • The contest name

    • A description of what you expected vs. what was shown

    • The player, game, or outcome in question

Our team will review the data and, if a genuine error is confirmed, can issue a correction. Note that corrections to official scores come from our data provider β€” Splash cannot override official game results.

Why Did My Score Change Overnight?

Occasionally, scores or standings change after a game ends. This usually happens because:

  • The official data provider issued a stat correction (e.g., a rushing yard was attributed to the wrong player)

  • A game result was reviewed or revised by the league

  • The contest's final scoring run processed after the initial update

This is not unique to Splash β€” the same corrections happen on all major fantasy platforms. If the change affected your result, email support@splashsports.com and we'll explain exactly what changed and why.
