Composite questions allow you create a set of questions across the same horizontal line and allow the responder to answer the set of questions as many times as applicable. Composite questions can be added to the Main Body, a page, sections, and groups.

Composite Question Properties Reference
There are several properties available for you to customize when you create a new Composite Question, and it’s worth spending some time reviewing them. The options you select affect the way you use the Composite Question and how it looks.
Section | Setting | Description |
General | Name | The Name is the text that is displayed in the setup section of the Document to identify the question. The Name does not appear in the printed Document. |
| Float Element | Floating an element allows you to position multiple sub-Sections, Groups, or Composite Questions next to each other in a Document. |
Composite Question Option | Show Totals | The Show Totals option is available for Number questions. |
| Use Abbreviation | If checked, this option will make use of any abbreviated question names that you have setup for questions included within the Composite Question. |
Numbering | Number Composite Question | If checked, the Composite Question title will be numbered. |
Displayed Text | Title | The Title is the text that will appear in a printed Document. The Title can be different from the Composite Question Name or excluded completely. |
| Style | The style drop-down allows you to specify unique formatting for the Composite Question. By default, the group will inherit the style selected for the Main Body. |
| Header | Any text that you include in the header field will appear before the questions that you add to the Composite Question. |

Adding Composite Questions
Step 1: Adding a Composite Question
Before creating a new Composite Question, review the Composite Question properties reference topic for information about each field or property available for you to customize.
In the Document, complete one of the following options:
From the Class drop-down list, click Composite Question.
Type a Name for the section.
To float the Section, click Float Element. In the Width field, specify the percentage of horizontal space you want the Section to occupy.
If you will be adding only Number questions to the Composite Question and you want to sum all of the responses, choose Show Totals.
To enable abbreviated versions of Question Names included in the Composite Questions, click Use Abbreviation.
To number the Composite Question, in the Numbering section, click the Number Composite Question and specify any Sub Element Formatting.
To include a title for the Composite Question, in the Displayed Text > Title field, type a title. The title can be the same as the Section Name or unique.
By default, the Composite Question Inherits the same Style as the Main Body. To use a different style than the Main Body, select one of the other available styles.
To include any additional information or instructions for the Composite Question, populate the Header and/or Footer fields with the desired text.
Click Save.
Step 2: Adding a Key Question
A key question is the first question that a responder answers as part of a composite question. Answers for key questions are required. You can use any of the following types of Questions as key questions: Number, Text, Yes/No, Date, List, User, Service, Case Service, and Site.
In the Composite Question section, click Add Key Question.
In the Add section, complete one of the following options:
To add a new question as the key question, click New Question. Continue on to Step 3.
To add a previously shared question as the key question, click Shared Question. In the Question field, type the name of the question that you want to add and select. Click Save.
Type the Name of the question.
In the Question Type drop-down list, select the question type.
Complete the remaining fields as required. For more information about creating questions, see the Questions topic.
Click Save.
Step 3: Add more Questions to your Composite Question
Continue populating your Composite Question with any additional Questions that you’d like. For a refresher on creating Questions, see the Creating new Questions and Add a Shared Question to your Document topics.
Modifying Composite Questions
If you discover that you need to change an aspect of your Composite Question’s properties after you create it, review the following table for information about what Composite Question properties you can modify whether the Document is In Progress (i.e. prior to Finalizing for the first time or after you’ve created a New Revision) or while the Document is Finalized.

Modify a Composite Question’s General Properties
From the Document Main Body or Page, click the Composite Question (shown as Composite Question: <Question Name>) you want to modify.
Modify the values that you want to change.
Click Save.
Remove a Composite Question
Caution
Removing a Composite Question also deletes all Questions in the Composite Question. Before you remove the Composite Question, ensure you have moved any Questions that you want to keep to another area of your Document.
Locate the Composite Question you want to remove from your Document and click Remove.
Click Okay to confirm you action.
Reorder the Questions in a Composite Question
Locate the Composite Question and click Reorder.
Click the up and down arrows to change the positionof the Question.
Click Save.
