Document Groups

Groups organize a series of questions together in a table. Groups typically consist of the same types of Questions, but they don’t have to — a Group question can have any combination of Question types.

Group Properties Reference

There are several properties available for you to customize when you create a new Group, and it’s worth spending some time reviewing them. The options you select affect the way you use the Group and how it looks.

General

Name

The Name is the text that is displayed in the setup section of the Document to identify the question. The Name does not appear in the printed Document.

Float Element

Floating an element allows you to position multiple sub-Sections, Groups, or Composite Questions next to each other in a Document.

Group Option

Display Radio

The Display Radio option is available for List and Yes/No questions.

When enabled, each Question in the Group appears in a separate row in the first column of the table while the List values appear in subsequent columns (with the list values as the column headings).

List Questions
- You must use the same Shared List for each question in the Group
- You cannot mix multi- and single-select List options in the same Group (i.e. your List questions must all be Check box list (multi) questions or they must be Drop down/Radio/Suggest Lookup list (single) questions
- All single-select list types display as radio buttons

Yes/No Questions
- Both Checkbox and Radio options display as radio buttons under column headings of Yes and No

Customization options include:

Show All Labels: If checked, this option displays each of the list values as the column heading title. If unchecked, only the lowest and highest list values will be displayed.

Sub Label: If text is entered as a sub label, additional text will display above the group questions. You can use the sub label to provide additional information or directions regarding the questions.

Show Totals

The Show Totals option is available for Number questions.

If you create a group with only numbered questions, the Show Totals option will automatically calculate the total of the numbers for you on the completed Document.

If checked, the Group title will be numbered.

Sub Element Format

You can choose to number any sub elements included in the Group. The drop-down list includes formatting options.
Customization options include:

Tier Numbering: This option combines the main element and sub element numbers. For example, 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, etc.

Continuous Numbering: This option will number questions in a continuous sequence regardless of whether the questions are included in the same or different sections.

Displayed Text

Title

The Title is the text that will appear in a printed Document. The Title can be different from the Group Name or excluded completely.

Style

The style drop-down allows you to specify unique formatting for the Group. By default, the Group will inherit the style selected for the Main Body.

Header

Any text that you include in the header field will appear before the questions that you add to the Group.

Footer

Any text that you include in the footer field will appear after the questions that you add to the Group.

Adding Groups

Before creating a new Group, review the Group properties reference topic for information about each field or property available for you to customize.In the Document, complete one of the following options:

  1. To add a Group to the Main Body or Page of a Document, click Add Element.

  2. To add a Group to another Section, click Add.

  3. From the Class drop-down list, click Group.

  4. Type a Name for the Group.

  5. To float the Group, click Float Element. In the Width field, specify the percentage of horizontal space you want theSection to occupy.

  6. If you will be adding Yes/No or List questions to the Group and want to display all List values as radio buttons, choose Display Radio. Optionally, you can Show All Labels or include a Sub Label.

  7. If you will be adding only Number questions to the Group and you want to sum all of the responses, choose Show Totals.

  8. To number the Group, in the Numbering section, click the Number Group and specify any Sub Element Formatting.

  9. To include a title for the Group, in the Displayed Text > Title field, type a title. The title can be the same as the Section Name or unique.

  10. By default, the Group Inherits the same Style as the Main Body. To use a different style than the Main Body, select one of the other available styles.

  11. To include any additional information or instructions for the Group, populate the Header and/or Footer fields with the desired text.

  12. Click Save.

After you finish: add Questions to your Group!

Modifying Groups

If you discover that you need to change an aspect of your Group’s properties after you create it, review the following table for information about what Group properties you can modify whether the Document is In Progress (i.e. prior to Finalizing for the first time or after you’ve created a New Revision) or while the Document is Finalized.

Modify a Group’s General Properties

  1. From the Document Main Body or Page, click the Group (shown as Group: <Group Name>) you want to modify.

  2. Modify the values that you want to change.

  3. Click Save.

Remove a Group

Caution

Removing a Group also deletes all Questions in the Group. Before you remove the Group, ensure you have moved any Questions that you want to keep to another area of your Document.

  1. Locate the Group you want to remove from your Document and click Remove.

Reorder the Questions in a Group

  1. Locate the Composite Question and click Reorder.

  2. Click the up and down arrows to change the position of the Question.

Move a Group

  1. Locate the Composite Question you want to move in your Document and click Move.
