How do you manage food allergies?

Food Allergies and Special Restrictions at Steve & Kate's Camp

At Steve & Kate's Camp, we take food allergies and special dietary restrictions very seriously. During camp registration, you will be asked to provide detailed information about any food allergies that your camper may have.

During camp registration, you will also see dietary labels like VG (Vegetarian), VV (Vegan), GF (Gluten-Free), DF (Dairy-Free), SF (Soy-Free), and EF (Egg-Free) clearly marked for all meals and snacks.

Severe/Life Threatening Allergies

If a camper has a severe/life-threatening food allergy, all food served at Camp is prepared and/or sourced off-site and the Camp is unable to guarantee that snacks and lunches provided, or ingredients used in food activities (i.e. ‘The Bakery’) are safe for exposure to or consumption by children with severe food allergies. We require that for allergy safety, you provide food from home that does not contain nuts or shellfish that's ready-to-eat (since refrigeration and/or heating are not available). For the safety of your camper, they will not be permitted to participate in food activities.

Additionally, campers with severe allergies are excluded from activities like Bakery or Pie Day to ensure safety. While attempts are made to minimize allergen exposure, gluten-free or allergy-friendly substitutes for food-related activities are not always guaranteed.

You also have the option to request to have your camper sit separately from other campers during lunch. If you would like to do so, please call our support team at (415) 389-5437 or update their profile on your Steve & Kate's account.

Parents of children with dietary restrictions also have the option to preselect meals during the Express Check-In process. This preselection can start at 6 PM the night before or on the morning of the camp day.

Moderate Allergies

If the camper has a moderate food allergy, they are able to participate in food activities, and food from home is not required. We take moderate allergies seriously and closely monitor our snack, lunch, and activities to ensure campers are not exposed to any allergens that they have been listed as having sensitivities or allergies to.

Meal options for moderate allergies include gluten-free snacks, vegetarian meals like cheese pizza, and kosher choices that can be preselected during Express Check-In to ensure compatibility.

Specific Dietary Options

Gluten-Free Options

  • Camp provides gluten-free snacks like Good Pops popsicles that are safe for children without severe gluten allergies.

Vegetarian Options

  • At least one vegetarian meal, such as cheese pizza, is offered daily.

Kosher Meals

  • Kosher meal options can be preselected by parents during Express Check-In the evening before or on the camp day.

These options ensure a variety of diets are accommodated while maintaining focus on safety and convenience.

Conclusion

We understand the gravity of food allergies and special dietary restrictions and do our best to accommodate families who are dealing with those specific needs. Please contact us with any further questions or concerns regarding food allergies and special diets at Steve & Kate's Camp.
