Use it to store details that are meaningful to your business but don't have a dedicated field elsewhere.
Each entry is a key (for example, region) and a value (for example, north). You can add custom data to a resource from its detail page by selecting the edit icon on the Custom data panel.
If you're working with the Stora API, this same information is exposed as metadata.
