sunday is committed to providing a secure and seamless payment experience for restaurants and their guests. Our chargeback rate is as low as 0.02%, which is 30 times lower than the industry average.
To help reduce fraud, sunday uses several security measures:
Card Verification Value (CVV): Your card's CVV, located on the back, is never stored on our database, ensuring enhanced security.
Proprietary fraud prevention system: Developed by a team of experts to cater to our unique business requirements and diligently overseen by our dedicated Fraud Team.
3-D Secure (3DS2): We utilize this advanced technology to offer an additional layer of verification, protecting all parties involved with lower friction than 3DS1.
Live Fraud Notifications: Stay vigilant with our new "sunday for Restaurants" app, available now on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, receiving live push notifications for any fraudulent payment attempts.
sunday also accepts Google Pay and Apple Pay, which provide an additional layer of payment security.
US Chargeback Policy
1. What is a chargeback?
A payment dispute, also called a chargeback, occurs when a cardholder contacts their card-issuing bank to request that a payment be reversed.
A cardholder may file a chargeback for several reasons, including:
Fraudulent activity: The card or card details were stolen and used without authorization.
Goods or services not received: The cardholder paid for goods or services but did not receive them.
Goods or services not as described: The cardholder received goods or services that were incorrect or did not match the description.
2. Coverage and limitations
Effective September 1, 2023, sunday will cover chargebacks up to 0.20% of the actualized sunday transaction value per restaurant from the previous month.
sunday does not cover chargebacks for:
Payments processed outside of sunday’s preferred payment processor.
Chargebacks resulting from restaurant negligence.
For example, restaurant negligence may include refunding a customer in the POS system without processing the corresponding refund in the sunday Dashboard.
Restaurants are responsible for ensuring that refunds are processed consistently across all platforms.
3. sunday’s role in the dispute process
The cardholder must contact their card-issuing bank to begin the dispute process.
sunday cannot initiate a chargeback on behalf of a cardholder, even if the cardholder contacts sunday instead of their bank.
Once the cardholder’s bank opens the dispute and notifies sunday, sunday will provide documentation to the bank within the required deadline and manage the dispute process from start to finish.
4. If the dispute is resolved in favor of the restaurant
If the dispute is resolved in favor of the restaurant, no action is required from you, and you will not be notified of the dispute.
5. If the dispute is resolved in favor of the customer
If the dispute is resolved in favor of the customer, sunday will cover the full cost of the dispute, including the associated administrative fee, when both of the following conditions are met:
The restaurant’s monthly chargeback history is within the 0.20% allowance.
The chargeback was not caused by restaurant negligence.
This coverage applies up to the defined allowance.
If the restaurant’s monthly chargeback history exceeds the 0.20% allowance, and the chargeback was not caused by restaurant negligence, sunday will invoice the restaurant for the full cost of the dispute and the associated administrative fee. The invoice will be issued within 7 business days of the verdict.
6. Final dispute outcome
Once the cardholder’s bank makes a decision, the dispute outcome is considered final. sunday will not continue challenging the outcome on the restaurant’s behalf.
If you want to pursue the matter further, you must resolve it directly with the customer or seek legal advice.
sunday does not control or determine the outcome of a chargeback. However, sunday will support the restaurant by presenting a well-documented case to the cardholder’s bank during the dispute process.
7. Failure to pay
If a dispute is resolved in favor of the customer and the restaurant is responsible for paying the full cost of the dispute, the restaurant must pay the disputed amount within the specified timeframe.
If the amount is not paid, sunday reserves the right to deduct the outstanding balance from future payouts.
This policy is subject to change. sunday will communicate any updates to merchants.
What to do if you suspect a chargeback
If you believe a guest has disputed a payment:
Go to Dashboard > Operations > Payments and locate the payment.
Note the payment ID, date, amount, table number if applicable, card brand, and last four digits of the card.
Contact sunday Support through Intercom and provide this information.
Do not issue another refund until the situation has been confirmed with sunday Support.
Remember that a failed payment or a payment that does not appear on your POS is not necessarily a chargeback. Check the payment status before taking action.
