How to Use the AI Assistant in Supio

The AI Assistant is Supio’s built-in chat for asking questions about your case files. It is accessible from every tab in Supio, so you never have to leave your current workflow to pull an answer, run analysis, or verify a detail.

In this article, you’ll learn how to:

  • Open the AI Assistant from anywhere in Supio

  • Control which case files the AI draws from

  • Choose between Normal and Deep Thinking modes

  • Upload documents into a chat on the fly

  • Use prompts from the Prompt Library (with ready-to-copy examples)

  • Verify answers with line-by-line citations

Accessing the AI Assistant

You can open the AI Assistant two ways:

  • From the Overview page using the AI Assistant card

  • From the slide-out panel on the right side of any tab — look for the chat icon in the top-right corner

The experience is the same wherever you open it, so you always have the same tools at hand.

Chat History and the Prompt Library

Both the Overview card and the slide-out panel include the same set of tools.

Prompt Library

The Prompt Library gives you quick access to:

  • Prompts you’ve saved

  • Prompts Supio has prepared for you

Use the Prompt Library to jump-start case strategy work or generate ideas without rewriting your favorite prompts from scratch.

Chat History

Click the chat history icon to revisit past conversations, so you can pick up prior analysis or reference an earlier answer.

Source Selection & Context Control

Source selection controls which case files the AI Assistant draws from when it responds. You’ll find the source selector at the top of the chat panel, just above the message box.

Default Behavior

  • For cases under 500 pages, all sources are selected automatically.

  • For larger cases, we recommend narrowing the context. A smaller, focused set of sources produces faster and more accurate answers.

Ways to Narrow Your Sources

Filter

What it does

Folders

Mirrors the Files tab structure so you can select files by folder — for example, a single provider’s records.

Document Type

Filter by category such as Medical Records, Financial and Bills, or Police Reports.

Verified Timeline

Chat directly against your verified timeline entries.

Timeline Filters

Narrow the timeline by injury type, event type, facility, or rider.

Tip: Match your sources to your question. Asking about a specific injury? Select that provider’s records only. Asking about overall damages? Include all medical and financial documents. Narrower context means faster, more accurate answers.

Chat Modes

The AI Assistant offers two chat modes. Pick the one that matches the question you’re asking.

Normal Mode

Normal Mode is the default and is best for:

  • Quick questions

  • Fact lookups

  • Simple analysis

Deep Thinking Mode

Deep Thinking is built for complex, multi-step reasoning. Think of it as the “think harder” option. Use it for:

  • Complex analytical prompts (e.g., analyzing all injuries in a case)

  • Comparative reasoning across many documents

  • Nurse paralegal–style medical review

  • Tasks that would normally require extended expert review

Toggle Deep Thinking on before sending your message. Responses may take several minutes but will be more thorough and structured.

Normal Chat

Deep Thinking

Fast responses

Longer processing time (several minutes)

Lightweight reasoning

Multi-step expert reasoning

Best for most day-to-day questions

Best for expert-level legal or medical analysis

Uploading a Document to Chat

Need to reference something that isn’t part of the case file? Click the paperclip icon in the chat box to upload a document on the fly and ask the AI Assistant about it in context.

When you upload, choose one of two options

  • Add the file to the case — saves the document to the case file for future reference.

  • Use only for this chat — keeps the document out of the case file. It’s used only as context for the current conversation.

Common Use Cases

  • Recent medical articles

  • Relevant case law

  • Drafts or reference documents you don’t want stored in the case file

Citations and Source Highlighting

Every response in the AI Assistant includes line-by-line citations, so you can see exactly where each answer comes from. This makes it quick to validate an answer before relying on it.

  • Click a citation to jump directly to the source page

  • The exact cited text is highlighted on the page

The citations will appear next to line items, as well as in a dropdown list at the bottom of the AI Assistant reply.

Example Prompts to Try

Causation Support

“What medical evidence supports a causal connection between the incident and the client’s injuries? Cite the specific records and page numbers.”

Case Strengths & Weaknesses

“Based on all case documents, what are the strongest arguments in favor of my client, and what are the potential weaknesses the defense might exploit?”

Liability Assessment

“Summarize the evidence supporting the defendant’s liability. What facts are still missing that would strengthen this argument?”

Missing Records Audit

“Review the case file and identify any medical bills, records, or reports that appear to be referenced but are missing from the file.”

Deposition Prep

“Generate a list of deposition questions I should ask the defendant, focusing on establishing liability and notice.”

Getting Started: A 4-Step Walkthrough

  2. Try one of the example prompts above, then review the response. Click any citation to jump directly to the source page.
