What Is a Prompt?
A prompt is simply the instruction or question you type into Supio’s AI Assistant. The quality of your prompt has a direct impact on the quality of the response you get back. Think of it like giving directions — the more specific and clear you are, the better the result.
The good news? You don’t need to be a tech expert to write great prompts. A few simple habits can make a big difference.
💡 Why This Matters: Supio’s AI Assistant is trained to respond to what you ask. Vague prompts lead to vague answers. Detailed, specific prompts lead to detailed, actionable insights that can save your team significant time. |
5 Golden Rules for Better Prompts
Tip 1: Be Specific and Detailed |
❌ Too vague Summarize this case. |
✅ Much better Summarize this motor vehicle accident case, including the incident date and location, the injuries sustained, the treatment history, and the current legal status. |
The more context you give, the better the output. Include details like:
The type of case (e.g., MVA, medical malpractice, NEC)
What you’re trying to accomplish (e.g., prepare for mediation, draft a deposition summary)
The format you want the response in (e.g., bullet points, numbered list, use headings)
The length or level of detail you need
Tip 2: Tell the AI What TO Do — Not Just What NOT to Do |
❌ Less effective Don’t make it too long and don’t repeat yourself. |
✅ Better Provide a concise 3–5 sentence summary without repeating any information. |
Tip 3: Ask for a Specific Format |
❌ Less effective List the treatments the patient received. |
✅ Better List all treatments the patient received in a table with the following columns: Provider Name, Date of Treatment, Treatment Type, and Amount Charged. |
Asking for a specific format — like a table, numbered list, or headings — makes the output easier to read and use directly in your work.
Tip 4: Provide Context About Your Role and Goal |
❌ Less effective What are the strengths of this case? |
✅ Better I am representing the plaintiff in this MVA case. What are the strongest arguments I can make at mediation? Use headings and cite specific evidence from the records. |
Tip 5: Start Simple, Then Refine |
❌ Don’t overthink it Waiting until you have the “perfect” prompt before asking anything. |
✅ Do this instead Start with a simple question, review the response, and then follow up with a more detailed prompt to dig deeper. You can always refine as you go. |
Pro Tip: Train the AI Before You Start
Before diving into your case questions, you can give the AI Assistant a set of instructions to follow for the entire session. This helps you get consistently detailed, well-formatted responses without having to repeat yourself.
Here’s a 3-step approach you can copy and paste directly into the AI Assistant:
Step 1 — Ask for permission to give instructions I would like to give you preliminary instructions before I enter prompts. Can I do that? |
Step 2 — Set your formatting expectations Be extremely detailed in every response. Use bold headings and bullets for clarity and digestibility. |
Step 3 — Tell it to suggest improved versions of your prompts Whenever I enter a prompt, suggest a significantly improved version that will result in a higher quality response. After offering your suggestion, ask me if I’d like to use it or run my original. If I say ‘continue refining,’ keep improving the prompt and ask for my input. |
This simple setup can dramatically improve the quality and consistency of the AI’s responses throughout your session.
