How to edit CRM fields from LinkedIn
Updated over 2 months ago

If a LinkedIn contact is in your CRM, you will see the SurfeSync overlay of your CRM field on top of their profile. The SurfSync overlay sits on the profile and displays the information about this contact that is in your CRM.

Here, simply click on the field you wish to edit and enter the updated information. To change a contact’s company information, click on the contact field and select the desired option from the dropdown. This will change the information in the relevant field in your CRM.

Depending on your use case, you may not need all of the fields that Surfe shows in SurfeSync and you may want to see a different field that SurfeSync doesn’t show by default. You can easily change which fields are displayed in SurfeSync by clicking on ‘Add/remove fields’.

This is also how to change a contact’s owner in your CRM directly from LinkedIn. To assign a different owner, simply click on the current owner's name and select the owner you want to assign from the dropdown list.

What is fields/properties mapping?

Surfe pulls over 20 pieces of information on the contact level from LinkedIn to your CRM. However, your CRM can be set up very differently from another company’s. Therefore, you will need to “map” your fields so Surfe knows where information from LinkedIn should go inside your CRM.

‘Fields mapping’ and ‘Properties’ mapping are the same thing - they just have different names depending on which CRM you are using. So whether you see ‘Fields mapping’ or ‘Properties mapping’, you’re in the right place.

How can I map fields/properties?

In the Surfe dashboard, head to the Fields/Properties mapping window. Here you will see two columns:

i) on the left side is all the information that we can pull from LinkedIn

ii) on the right side is where you would like us to place it inside your CRM.

All you have to do is select which fields you want the information from LinkedIn to be sent to.

Best practices for field/property mapping

Lots of people on LinkedIn share the first name and last name. This can lead Surfe to think there are duplicates in your CRM. However, each LinkedIn user has one unique identifier: their LinkedIn URL.

It is important to map the LinkedIn URL with the relevant field in your CRM. If you don’t already have a field in your CRM for LinkedIn URLs, we highly recommend you to create one. How to create a new field inside your CRM depends on which CRM you are using. Here are tutorials for each CRM that we support: Hubspot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, and Copper.

Why are some of my CRM fields/properties not shown on the mapping page?

Only text properties can be mapped with Surfe. This may result in some properties not appearing on the mapping page. Please ensure the field you are trying to map is of the ‘text’ format or create a new ‘text’ field instead.
