Understanding Geometry Types

Geometry types define the shape and size of your mapped area. Choosing the correct type ensures utilities are properly notified.


Line Type

  • Ideal for smaller roads or alleyways.

  • Sends notifications to utilities within 50 feet on either side of the line.

🛠️ How to Use This Tool:

On Desktop or Laptop:

  • Right-click once to start

  • Right-click at each turn

  • Double right-click to finish the line

On Mobile or Tablet:

  • Tap once to start

  • Tap at each turn

  • Double tap to finish the line

💡 Tip: Use the zoom and pan tools to improve accuracy while drawing.


Area Type

  • Best for addresses or general job sites.

  • Use when you need full coverage of irregular shapes.

🛠️ How to Use This Tool:

On Desktop or Laptop:

  • Right-click once to start at the first corner of your work area

  • Right-click at each additional corner

  • Double right-click on the final point to close the polygon

On Mobile or Tablet:

  • Tap once to start at the first corner

  • Tap to add each additional corner

  • Double tap on the final point to close the polygon

Circle Type

  • Perfect for marking a central location with radius-based coverage.

  • Use when work is focused around a single point or small area.

🛠️ How to Use This Tool:

On Desktop or Laptop:

  • Right-click once at the center of your work area to begin.

  • Drag the mouse outward to set your desired radius.

  • Right-click again to complete and close the circle.

On Mobile or Tablet:

  • Tap once to mark the center point.

  • Tap where you want the radius to end to close the circle.

💡 Tip: Use the zoom and pan tools to improve accuracy while drawing.


⚠️ Important:

  • Only Area and Circle types trigger utility notifications within their boundaries.

  • Line types notify utilities based on a 100-foot-wide corridor (50 feet on each side of the line).
