Important: Do not create or invite test applicants into Thalamus. Test applicants are not needed to test the system and will not function appropriately.
1. Set up a test session
Add the Program Users who will test the platform from the Administration page. For more information, see the Managing Program User Accounts guide
Create an event on the Calendar page. Choose a future date that is easy to tell apart from your regular interview days. For more information, see the Creating Interview Dates guide
Note: You can reuse this event date for multiple groups of faculty, as long as the date is not in the past.
Enter Virtual Interview Test as the event title
Toggle on Private/ Hidden Event, this will allow only users who have been scheduled for this event to see it on your calendar
Select Save to save your event. To discard your changes, select Cancel
Under Interviews on the Itinerary Builder page, locate the date of your Virtual Interview Test event. For more information, see the Building Applicant Itineraries and Event Sessions guide
Create a new session following the instructions for creating event sessions. For Location, select Virtual Interview (Thalamus). Under Faculty, select the faculty you want to invite to this test session. Do not invite any applicants
Select Save Session to create this session
Have the faculty and interviewers you invited log in to Thalamus and access the virtual interview session
Note: Faculty and interviewers can find additional instructions in the Faculty Instructions: Virtual Interviews guide. Applicants can find instructions in the Applicant Instructions: Virtual Interviews and Testing the Video platform prior to your interview day guides.
2. Check browser requirements
Use the most recent version of one of the following browsers:
Google Chrome (recommended)
Microsoft Edge (recommended)
Safari (supported with limitations)
Island (supported, depending on customer configuration)
Note: Thalamus Video is powered by Zoom's Web SDK, and some features are not fully supported in Safari, which may affect your experience. Internet Explorer is not a supported browser for Thalamus Video.
Note: If you use the Island browser and experience video issues, confirm that hardware acceleration is enabled. Go to island://settings/system and check whether Use graphics acceleration when available is toggled on. If it is toggled off, toggle it on. If it is already toggled on, toggle it off and then back on. Close and restart the browser, then check whether the issue still occurs.
If the issue still occurs with hardware acceleration enabled, Island can use the output of island://gpu/ for further troubleshooting. Select Download Report to File in the upper-left corner of the page to download the output and share it with the Island Support Team.
3. Run the network compatibility test
Ask interviewers to complete the Thalamus Network Compatibility Test before the interview day to help ensure a smooth interview experience.
By completing the Thalamus Network Compatibility Test in advance, interviewers can ensure a smooth and seamless interview experience.
