How to install ThoughtMetric via Google Tag Manager

1.) Make a ThoughtMetric account

The first step is to make a ThoughtMetric account by going to https://thoughtmetric.io/users/sign_up and signing up.

2.) Select the Google Tag Manager platform

Once you make an account you will be directed to an onboarding guide. Click on the GTM button to view the installation instructions for that platform.

3.) Set up ThoughtMetric - Base Tag

The first step is to set up a tag that will insert the ThoughtMetric pixel on every page.

a.) Create a new tag in Tag Manager and name it "ThoughtMetric - Base".

b.) Select "Custom HTML" as the tag type.

c.) Select "All Pages" as the trigger

d.) Paste in the "Base Tag" code found in the ThoughtMetric onboarding guide and click save.

4.) Set up ThoughtMetric - Purchase Tag

The next step is to set up a tag that will trigger the ThoughtMetric event code on every purchase.

a.) Create a new tag in Tag Manager and name it "ThoughtMetric - Purchase"

b.) Select "Custom HTML" as the tag type.

c.) Set up the trigger by selecting whatever trigger you have configured in Tag Manager that will trigger on every purchase.

d.) Paste in the "Purchase Tag" code found in the ThoughtMetric onboarding guide.

e.) Replace the placeholder variables in the tag with variables from your own data layer. The "Purchase Tag" can be modified to send additional data fields. 5.) Publish Workspace

After the ThoughtMetric tags are set up, publish your Tag Manager workspace to make the new tags live on your site.
