What's in my autodraw kit?

All you need to know about the equipment in your Thriva kit

Written by Renee Parmar

The kit box

Your kit has everything you need to do your test and post your sample. You can recycle it after you've collected your sample.

The tubes

Depending on your selected tests, you'll receive a combination of the following:

  • Yellow tube

  • Yellow and Purple tube

  • Yellow and Red tube

  • Purple tube

  • Red tube

Each tube tests for different things.

They all contain a gel to stabilise your sample. The gel has an expiration date usually valid for two months from when you receive your kit. You'll find this on the side of the tube.

These are Microtainer® blood collection tubes made by BD — a global medical device manufacturer. They're designed for capillary collection.

The tube casing

The tube casing is a plastic sleeve that protects your sample when you post it. It's made by the medical company MedDX.

The tube labels

All tubes must be correctly labelled with your name and date of birth otherwise the lab won't process your samples. You'll receive the same number of labels as you have tubes.

Make sure to apply your labels directly to your sample tubes.

The Autodraw device

You'll receive one Autodraw device in your kit.

Our Autodraw devices are single-use only. The device works by creating a vacuum on your skin, and a horizontal lancet pricks the surface. The vacuum then draws blood out of your capillaries. The lancets are similar to those used throughout healthcare.

If you have more than one tube, you'll need to use the same Autodraw device for both. Remove the first tube once the sample is collected and add the next tube on.

Hold down on the red button for 1 second to reset the vacuum seal.

The heat pack

If you have a heat pack, flex the metal disc back and forth until you hear a click. The pack will stiffen and start to warm up. Hold the

If you have any issues with the heat pack, let our team know at hello@thriva.co.

The plasters

Our plasters are medical-grade plasters.

The wipe

Each kit contains an alcohol wipe to use before using the Autodraw device

The instructions

Our instructions are created in-house by our Thriva team. We also have an easy step-by-step guide on how to prepare for, collect and post your sample.

The return form

The return form tells the lab which tests to run on your sample. The lab can't process your sample without it.

It's important to complete the form accurately, and to make sure the details match your account.

The envelope

You'll get a pre-paid Tracked24 envelope in your kit. It's a biological substance envelope that can safely carry blood samples. These are collected by Royal Mail and delivered to our lab — drop yours in a post box, no need to visit the Post Office.
