'Take a break' reminder (TTRS)

Prompting players to take a TTRS break today

Written by Bruno Reddy

What is the take-a-break reminder?

After a player (child or adult) has spent 30 minutes playing TTRS games in a day, we'll gently suggest that it might be a good time to take a break.

This is a friendly reminder, not a limit. Players can take a break or choose to carry on playing.

Our approach is little and often.
Spreading practice across different days is better for learning than trying to fit lots of practice into one day. Taking regular breaks also helps players of all ages develop healthy digital habits.

What counts towards the 30 minutes?

Only time spent playing TTRS games counts.

The 30 minutes can build up across several visits during the day. For example, someone might play for 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes during the day and another 10 minutes in the evening.

Time spent elsewhere in TTRS, such as visiting the avatar shop, looking at leaderboards or viewing stats, doesn't count.

The reminder works the same way every day, whether it's a school day, weekend or holiday.

What happens after 30 minutes?

Once the player has accumulated 30 minutes of gameplay that day, they'll see the take-a-break reminder. They aren't prevented from playing. If they want to continue, they can but the reminder appears after every game that day.

Can the reminder be changed or turned off?

No, the take-a-break reminder is part of TTRS for everyone. It can't be changed or switched off by schools, teachers, parents, carers or children.

How is this different from the daily play limit?
