What is the TinkerList WebPrompter

The TinkerList WebPrompter is our very own teleprompter/autocue application that syncs with your scripts in TinkerList. It is highly configurable and can be used on any computer, with or without the use of a ShuttleXpress jog wheel.

As the WebPrompter automatically syncs with your TinkerList scripts, this means that any changes made to a script will automatically - and immediately - sync to the WebPrompter, allowing you to quickly and easily keep your prompter up-to-date.

How to set up the TinkerList WebPrompter

What you need

To use the TinkerList WebPrompter you need a computer with an internet connection and Google Chrome as the browser. Optionally, a ShuttleXpress jog wheel can be used to operate the prompter. And finally, depending on the desired setup, an extra (external) display may be needed as well.

Configuration

Even though the TinkerList WebPrompter has a lot of options, configuring it is quite straightforward.

  1. In your TinkerList project, open a script from the calendar or sidebar

  2. Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the script to open the menu

  3. Select 'Teleprompter'

A panel will open on the side, allowing you to configure your WebPrompter. Here you can configure your device as well as which cards, fields and markers to show or hide in the prompter output.

Different tabs available in the prompter configuration panel

Device:

As it is possible to create multiple configurations, each with their own set of cards, fields and markers to show or hide, the first step is to give your configuration a name.

Next, set your Device Type to TinkerList WebPrompter in the dropdown menu.

If the TinkerList WebPrompter is not yet enabled for your project, a message will be shown - please contact our Sales colleagues for more information.

Now we can add or connect a prompter (destination). Click Add a prompter under Select Prompter Destination, a window will pop up where you can (1) give your prompter a name and (2) copy a token that you will need to securely connect your TinkerList project to the WebPrompter. Make sure to copy the token, then click Save.

Our (new) prompter destination has now been added, but will be shown as Offline, meaning we can now go ahead and connect our destination. Open a new tab or Window and go to the WebPrompter page: https://webprompter.tinkerlist.tv/.

If there is no previously connected WebPrompter connected, a window will show where you can enter the Token you copied in the previous step - paste the token and click Submit to connect.

Go back to the TinkerList tab/window - in the Teleprompter panel in your TinkerList script you should now see your WebPrompter destination as online.

Continue the device configuration:

  • Font size (for example 80)

  • Letter Spacing (for example 0)

  • Vertical Spacing (for example 0)

  • Horizontal Margins (for example 0)

  • Aspect Ratio (16:9 or 4:3)

  • Vertical Mirror (off/on)

  • Horizontal Mirror (off/on)

  • Spacebar / Wireless Presenter Speed (for example 2)

  • Card Title Style (Same as Rundown or Red)

  • Hide Badge (off/on)

  • Scroll Speed 1 -> 7 (example values, in order: 1, 3, 6, 9, 11, 18, 30 - when using using a ShuttleXpress jog wheel)

General:

Here you can change settings for List Titles Format, Card Titles Format, Remove everything between {}, Float everything between [], and set a Character That Will Be Replaced With A Line Feed.

Lists:

Lines Before Every List: allows you to add empty lines before a script List.

Lines After Every List: allows you to add empty lines after a script List.

Remove Lists (Separate With Comma): allows you to hide certain lists on the WebPrompter.

Cards:

The Cards tab will give you an overview of all of the different card types that are being used in your TinkerList project. For each of these card types you can select whether or not you want to see them on the WebPrompter by simply enabling or disabling them here - click the eye-icon in front of the card type you want to enable.

Once a card has been enabled, you can unfold it for more options. These options are configurable per card type and can vary based on the available card fields:

  • Use Badge numbers (off/on to hide/show badge numbers)

  • Empty Lines After Field: ... (add empty lines after a field, configurable per field)

  • Label Before Field: ... (add a label before a field, configurable per field)

Markers:

Markers can be configured in a way similar to the card configuration. For each available Marker, you have to option to enable or disable it, as well as do custom configuration. Click the eye-icon in front of the marker you want to enable.

Once a marker has been enabled, you can unfold it for more options. These options are configurable per marker:

  • Lines Before (add empty lines before each marker of this type)

  • Lines After (add empty lines after each marker of this type)

  • Remove and keep line breaks (remove the marked text but keep the line breaks)

How to use the TinkerList WebPrompter

Once the TinkerList WebPrompter has been configured (see above), you are now ready to use it. Most of the operations will happen from the WebPrompter itself, but there are some actions that are available from within the TinkerList script as well.

Before going to the WebPrompter page, make sure to switch on your prompter by clicking the red 'Off' to switch it to the green 'On' status.

The WebPrompter page

Go to the WebPrompter page: https://webprompter.tinkerlist.tv/. If your prompter configuration is switched on, you will see your script appear as configured. If you do not see your script, or you're not seeing certain cards, fields or markers, review your configuration to make sure the required cards, fields and markers are enabled.

There are multiple ways of operating the TinkerList WebPrompter: manual (by scrolling or using keyboard shortcuts) or by using a ShuttleXpress jog wheel.

Manual controls:

You can use your mouse or trackpad to scroll through the script on the WebPrompter.

Using the available keyboard shortcuts will make operating the WebPrompter easier:

  • Spacebar: Start/stop automatic scrolling using the speed as configured under Device -> Spacebar / Wireless Presenter Speed

  • D-key: Go back to the top of the script

  • Arrow left/right/up/down: Go to the previous/next card in the script

ShuttleXpress jog wheel:

Important: do not install the ShuttleXpress jog wheel drivers.

To use the ShuttleXpress jog wheel you first have to configure it. To do so, go to the WebPrompter page and click the little gear icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Next, click Connect ShuttleXpress (bottom-left corner) to connect the device.

Your browser will show this window where connected/compatible devices will be shown. Select your device and Connect.

For more information on how to use the ShuttleXpress jog wheel and how to configure a Decimator device, see this Help Center article.

Cueing from the Script in TinkerList itself

As the prompter operator controls the script on the TinkerList WebPrompter, the current position of the prompter will be visible in the TinkerList script itself as well, indicated with a red prompter icon next to the card badge.

Other cards in the script will show a black prompter icon next to their badge. This icon can be clicked in order to send the WebPrompter to that card in order to show this card on the prompter output.
