Perhaps you’re trying to download a recording? Or you were surprised to see someone else who was in your meeting is also an admin of the video? Let’s sort this out.

“Created by:" and “Owned by:"

When you hover your mouse over the icons on the top left corner of your recording’s page, you’re going to get some helpful clues!

That’s a bunch of people, must have been a fun meeting 🤔

This specific video was “Created by:" Suellen. This means that the recording was made by Suellen’s bot! However, there’s so many people saying they own it! 🤯 What happened here?!

Likely, this has to do with the Admin Controls of Suellen’s Team. See below how this works!

And what about here? Why is there only one person as a creator and an owner, but there’s so many other icons there? 🤔 This means that the same person who recorded is the only Admin of the video, but all those other folks have access to it as Editors or Viewers!

Admin Controls

You might want to note that your Team’s settings (or Admin Controls) might be determining who gets access and what level of access! Check the Admin Controls page of your Team to double-check. It could very well be that your Team Admin or your Billing Group Admin toggled this setting to ensure visibility. 😃

Auto-recording settings

But it could be that you received an e-mail about someone that watched your meeting, when you have the Auto-sharing via e-mail and the Auto-publishing options toggled off, and you got concerned about it. Or you hovered over the icons, and you saw a name that you believe shouldn’t be in the “Owned by:" list.

But this is where the magic happens. The reason you’re seeing another person as being an editor or admin of your recording is likely because:

  • You determined in your settings that you wanted to "Auto-record all calendar events even if I don’t join them”

  • There was another participant in your meeting who is a tl;dv user and had the same setting to “Auto-record all calendar events even if I don’t join them" on their account

  • Both you and the other participant, who is an Admin of your recording, would have the right to record and own this video

What does this mean, though? Why should someone else have visibility over your recording?

You and the other admin of this recording were invited to the same calendar event, and both wanted tl;dv to record the meeting automatically. Because there can’t be two bots at once in a meeting room, we ensure that one of them will record, but both people who wanted to record will have the right to watch and own the video - since it could have been either of you to record.

Auto-publishing settings

This setting specifies who will see your meeting recordings in their library in tl;dv:

  • Your organization is everyone who shares the same email domain as you. (Not available for public email providers like Gmail).

  • Your team is everyone who shares the same paid plan with you. (You can see this on the Members page.)

However, this does not make your colleagues Admins of your recordings - just Viewers or Editors! Unless there are Admin Controls or Auto-recording settings that make that possible. You can see more about your settings in this article.

Changing the levels of access on a recording

You can adjust the access levels on your recording by clicking the “Share" button on the top right corner, and going from there. Here’s the article on how to do it.

Something doesn’t add up? You’re still unsure about who should own the recording? Send us a message through the chat on the bottom right corner, and remember to add:

  1. A link to the recording’s page

  2. A screenshot of the calendar event with all invitees visible

Our team will check our database and will come back to you as fast as possible! ⚡️
