Shift Review: Seeing Cash in Hand

Written by Agent Support Bot

Question

I shouldn’t have any cash in hand at the end of my shift, but when I do my Shift Review, it's showing "Cash In Hand". Can you please help?

Answer

A user must have the following permissions in order to take and void cash payments. Learn more about user permissions here, Permissions Reference Guide.

  • 1.7 Cash Drawer Access

  • 3.8 Void / Refund Payments or 3.31 Void / Refund Payments (Limited to Same Day Only)

If you’re seeing an amount for “Cash in Hand” when you shouldn’t be, you would need to void the payment on a non-cash drawer device, and then re-process the payment on the correct cash drawer.

Note: Non-cash-taking devices can not void cash transactions unless specifically enabled in device settings.

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Reports > Payments.

  2. From the Payments report, select the Show/hide columns tab and choose Cash Drawers from the list. Once selected, you'll be able to see all the payments made and which specific cash drawer they went to.

  3. Next, locate the check that was paid for by cash but was not attached to a cash drawer.

  4. Once located, make sure to void the payment on the terminal the payment was taken on. Then, find the correct terminal/cash drawer to take the payment on. For a step-by-step guide on how to complete this, check out the Void Cash Payments section of this article: Void Items, Payments, and Checks.

  5. Once completed, the cash payment will be associated with the correct cash drawer that you’re working on and will be removed from the “Cash In Hand” in Shift Review.
