NTEP Scale Compliance

Written by Agent Support Bot

Question

  • Is my scale NTEP-compliant?

  • What is NTEP compliant mode?

  • What do I need to be NTEP-compliant?

Answer

NTEP compliant mode makes Toast Guest-Facing Displays and POS systems compliant with NTEP which is a governing body for scale integrations with POS companies. This setting is defaulted on during your onboarding process, and is recommended for all retail customers using scales.

Additional NTEP compliance guidelines:

  • Guest must be able to see a primary weight display (3/8" or 9.5mm min height) on the scale auxiliary display or Toast's guest-facing display screen

  • Capacity and division size must match between the display and scale, and tare must match the division size of the scale

  • Weight must be removed from the scale before next transaction can be started

  • Pound abbreviation must always be displayed in lower case with no "s". Example: lb

  • Device screen must show the following elements: SW Toast, Model: Required, CC: NTEP Certificate e.g [18-111]

Note: Both your staff and guests will receive an alert if weight is on the scale at the start of the transaction when in NTEP Compliant Mode. An example of the alert can be seen in the image below.
