Steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Toast POS > Permissions.

  2. Confirm permissions are enabled for:

    • Location

  3. Retry the firmware update when prompted:

    • If delayed, it will prompt again after eight hours.

    • Logging out and back in may trigger the update.

    • You can also manually trigger updates using the on-screen guidance.

Factory Reset Guidance for Elo V3 Devices

Factory-resetting certain Elo V3 devices can cause device setup failure and prevent payments.

If an Elo V3 device is NOT on the latest firmware (e.g., versions like 4.50.540120051+a, 4.50.54+a) and is factory reset:

  • Setup will fail

  • Guardian will not be installed

  • Device will not be able to take payments

Prevent Device Issues

Before performing a factory reset on an Elo V3 device:

  • Confirm device is on:

    • 4.5001.5401259+a (ends in 59+a)

  • OR manually update to this version first

Recover a Broken Elo Device

If this scenario occurs:

  1. Complete device setup without Guardian.

  2. Manually download Toast Mobile via web.

  3. Perform an OTA update to:

    • 4.5001.5401259+a (ends in 59+a)

  4. Perform another factory reset.

  5. Complete setup again; Toast Guardian will install correctly.

Safe Factory Reset Conditions

It is only safe to factory reset when:

  • Elo V2 device (firmware 3.*)

    • Note: When possible, upgrade your V2 to V3.

OR

  • Elo V3 device already on firmware 4.5001.5401259+a (ends in 59+a)
