Troubleshoot Your Epson Kitchen Printer

Having trouble with your Epson kitchen printer? Let's walk through some common solutions to get you back up and running quickly!

Step 1: Identify Your Printer Model

First, let's figure out which Epson printer model you have. Look at the logo on your printer:

  • Does it have a Toast Logo?

    • Whether your Toast-branded printer is black or white, please refer to the next step.

  • Does it have an Epson Logo?

Step 2: Check The Essentials

Before diving deeper, let's check the essentials:

  1. Are all cables securely plugged in?

    • If no, please ensure the power cable is firmly connected to the printer and the power outlet. Also, make sure the Ethernet cable (network cable) is plugged securely into the back of the printer and your network port. A snug fit is important!

    • If yes, great! Let's move to the next check.

  2. Is the printer powered on?

    • Locate the power switch, typically found on the bottom right of the printer.

    • Look for a green power light on the front left panel. If it's lit, your printer is on.

Step 3: Printer Not Printing

If your printer is powered on but not printing, please check the following:

  • Correct Paper Type

    • Ensure you are NOT using thermal paper. Thermal paper has a shiny coating and will mark if you scratch it with a fingernail. Impact printers require standard paper.

  • Paper Loading

    • Make sure the paper roll is not jammed and is loaded correctly. The paper should feed from the bottom of the roll.

  • Printer Ribbon Cartridge

    • Check that the printer ribbon cartridge is firmly seated. Push down gently but firmly on the cartridge. You might hear a click as it settles into place.

Step 4: Printer Printing in Red (or Faintly)

This usually applies to impact printers like the TM-U220 (Gray model) that use a ribbon.

  1. Check the Printer Ribbon

    1. Ensure the printer ribbon cartridge is firmly seated. Push down on it – if you hear it click, it may not have been fully in place. Try printing again.

    2. The ribbon might also be old or worn out and may need replacement.

  2. Perform a Printer Self-Test

    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Press and hold the Feed button (usually on the front panel).

    3. While still holding the Feed button, turn the printer on.

    4. Continue holding the Feed button until the printer starts printing a self-test page, then release the Feed button.

    5. Once the self-test begins, press the Feed button once more to stop the continuous printing (if it doesn't stop automatically after a short printout).

    6. Turn the printer off and then on again.

    7. Try printing from your system.
