Make a Secondary Position the Primary Position Process
A secondary position is necessary if an employee is working out of more than one pay group. This is commonly seen when an employee works at more than one location. Visit Toast Payroll: Assign or Change Employee Jobs or Locations for more details.
In this example, let's call the current secondary position Staff Hourly B and the current primary position Staff Hourly A.
Navigate to the employee's profile > Position.
Select Edit for the current secondary position, Staff Hourly B, and either screenshot or copy down the settings on this page.
Select a Reason at the top. Position Update works well here.
Check the box for Deactivate Position.
Scroll down and select Submit.
Select Edit for the current primary position, Staff Hourly A, and either screenshot or copy down the settings on this page.
Select a Reason at the top.
Position Update works well here, but you may also need to use Inter-company Transfer if an FEIN change is warranted.
If you're not able to edit the primary position after deactivating the secondary position, use Inter-company Transfer.
Using the first screenshot, Staff Hourly B, edit all the settings on this page to match the screenshot.
Select Submit. The original secondary position is now the primary position.
Select Add+ to add the new secondary position, Staff Hourly A, back in.
Using the second screenshot, Staff Hourly A, begin by adding the initial settings:
FEIN
Position
WTL
Company
Location
Job
Select Save.
Select Edit for the new secondary position, Staff Hourly A.
Select a Reason at the top. Position Update works well here.
Continue to use the screenshot, Staff Hourly A, to fill in the remaining settings.
Select Submit to finish this work. The original primary position is now the secondary position.
