Manage Your Overtime Thresholds in Toast Web
If you’re using Toast Web/POS only, you may opt to configure your overtime (OT) rules in Toast Web in order to see your overtime calculations in the labor reports. Learn more about setting up your OT rules in Manage Overtime Rules.
Manage Your Overtime Threshold in Toast Payroll
If you’re using both Toast Web and Toast Payroll or Toast Payroll only, do not configure your OT rules in Toast Web as these rules are handled automatically based on state regulations in Toast Payroll.
Weekly overtime thresholds are set internally, but you may check your daily overtime thresholds in Toast Payroll. They can be found on each employee's profile by navigating to Profile Settings from the Employment or Profile tab.
Follow State Regulations
This is the default option. It indicates employees will only have daily overtime if the state requires it. For example, an employee in California will automatically get overtime after eight hours in one day.
As of 4/21/22, only California and Colorado are included in the Follow State Regulations setting. All other states will not have daily overtime applied when this setting is enabled.
Alternative Workweek
This overrides the automatic daily overtime that applies to California and Colorado for those who don't want it in those states.
OT after 8/10/12 hours
This will voluntarily give daily overtime outside of California and Colorado if that's the company policy, or if you’re located in a state such as Nevada that sometimes requires daily overtime for certain types of employees.
Understand Common Overtime-Related Issues
There may be instances in which you may experience issues with overtime hours not appearing in Toast Payroll when they should be, and/or your timesheet may show that an employee has overtime hours when they should not have one. When these issues occur, we highly recommend that you check to see if your overtime rules are configured correctly. Remember that if you’re using both Toast Payroll and Toast Web, you must not configure your overtime rules in Toast Web since these rules are handled automatically based on state regulations in Toast Payroll.
If no mistakes are found in your overtime rules, contact Toast Payroll so we can check your work week start dates and your weekly overtime threshold. Chat with us by selecting the blue chat button in the lower-right corner of any Toast Payroll page.
