Express Funded Account Information

  • The Express Funded Account™, sometimes referred to as the "XFA", is the simulated Funded Level account that traders earn after passing the Trading Combine. After you’ve passed your Trading Combine and completed the necessary steps, you can start taking Payouts from your Express Funded Account based on our Payout Policy.

  • Traders are allowed to have up to five (5) Express Funded Accounts active at the same time. Take a look at the full details here: Multiple Express Funded Accounts.

  • Your Express Funded Account will show as having a $0 balance in your trading platform when you first start trading the account. The total number of contracts you're allowed in the Express Funded Account is determined by the Scaling Plan. Making additional profits will increase the number of contracts you're allowed to trade (up to the former Maximum Position Size from your Trading Combine).

Express Funded Account Standard: Rules and Objectives

Your main objective in the Express Funded Account Standard is to work toward paying yourself by utilizing our simple Payout Policy. Additionally, the Scaling Plan is an objective that must be followed in the Express Funded Account to help protect your account. The Scaling Plan in the Express Funded Account™ replaces the Maximum Position Size in the Trading Combine.

Rules

There is only one (1) rule in Express Funded Accounts:

Objectives

Just like the Trading Combine, the Express Funded Account is traded in a simulated environment, but the key differences between these accounts are important to know.

  • Consistency Target - There is no Consistency Target in the Express Funded Account Standard.

  • Profit Target - Unlike your Trading Combine Account, there's no Profit Target in Funded Level Accounts

Express Funded Account Consistency: Rules and Objectives

Your main objective in the Express Funded Account Consistency is to work toward paying yourself by utilizing our simple Payout Policy. Additionally, the Scaling Plan is an objective that must be followed in the Express Funded Account to help protect your account. The Scaling Plan in the Express Funded Account™ replaces the Maximum Position Size in the Trading Combine.

XFA Consistency is a new Express Funded Account (XFA) option designed to reward disciplined, repeatable trading while offering a faster path to payout eligibility. This article explains how XFA Consistency works, how it compares to XFA Standard, and what to expect depending on your trading program status.

Rules

There is only one (1) rule in Express Funded Accounts:

Objectives

  • Follow the Scaling Plan

  • Payout Eligibility: 3 days with 40% consistency target

    • A minimum of 3 trading days

    • At least one trade per day

This is a shorter window compared to the 5 winning-day minimum under XFA Standard.

Just like the Trading Combine, the Express Funded Account is traded in a simulated environment, but the key differences between these accounts are important to know.

  • Profit Target - Unlike your Trading Combine Account, there's no Profit Target in Express Funded Accounts.

Express Funded Account Consistency FAQs

What Is Express Funded Account Consistency?

XFA Consistency offers an alternative payout policy available after passing a Trading Combine. When you qualify for an Express Funded Account, you can choose between:

  • XFA Standard – our existing payout rules

  • XFA Consistency – a new option that introduces a consistency calculation but allows payout eligibility in as few as 3 trading days

How is Consistency Calculated?

Consistency = Largest Winning Day ÷ Current Total Net Profit

This means if your balance is negative, you don't have profit and will not see consistency tracking on your dashboard. You'll need to build positive profit to unlock consistency tracking.

Why does the Express Funded Account Consistency exist?

XFA Consistency is designed to encourage strong trading habits that support long-term success. By focusing on balanced performance rather than outsized single-day wins, traders are rewarded for consistency while gaining access to earlier payout eligibility.

What is the Payout Cap in the Express Funded Account Consistency?

The payout cap for XFA Consistency is $6,000. If you earn more than $6,000 during a qualifying window, you may request up to the payout cap once all eligibility requirements are met.

Can I have a mix of both Consistency and Standard Express Funded Accounts?

As long as you are not in our Focused Trader Plan (FTP), you may maintain a mix of XFA Standard and XFA Consistency accounts, up to the overall XFA account limit.

How do payouts affect Consistency?

After a payout is taken, your consistency calculation resets and applies only to profits earned after that payout.

Example Scenario:

  1. First payout window:

    • Day 1: $5,000 profit

    • Day 2: $5,000 profit

    • Day 3: $5,000 profit

    • Total profit: $15,000

    • Consistency: 33%

  2. Payout taken: $5,000

    • Remaining profit balance: $10,000

  3. New payout window begins:

    • Day 1: $100 profit

    • Day 2: $100 profit

    • Day 3: $100 profit

Consistency is now calculated only on the $300 earned after the payout, and eligibility must be met again before requesting another payout.

Please note: Once selected, the Express Funded Account type applies to that account and cannot be changed.

Can I change the size of my Express Funded Account?

The size of your Express Funded Account will match the size of the Trading Combine you passed. You cannot change the size before you activate, or after.

Why does the balance in my new Express Funded Account show $0 or N/A?

When you start trading in your new Express Funded Account, it will initially show a balance of zero ($0) or N/A in your trading platform. However, the buying power for this Express Funded Account remains the same as the corresponding Trading Combine account size you passed, whether it's 50K, 100K, or 150K.

What are the fees for the Express Funded Account?

There’s no monthly subscription fee for an Express Funded Account since the subscription ends once you pass the Trading Combine.

The Activation Fee is required as a one-time payment per Express Funded Account on our Standard Trading Combine Path. Do I need to purchase data?

Level 1 (Top of Book) live real-time data is included in your Topstep® membership at no additional cost in the Trading Combine and Express Funded Account. Level 1 Data is sufficient for chart traders, and anyone trading from a DOM or Ladder can upgrade to Level 2 (Depth of Market) data.

What happens if I lose my Express Funded Account due to violating the Maximum Loss Limit?

If you break a rule, your Express Funded Account will be liquidated immediately and closed at the end of the trading day. Back2Funded gives you the option to Reactivate it up to 2 times, keeping the same account size and payout policy. Learn more here.

What Happens When I Get Called Up to the Live Funded Account?

When Topstep determines that a trader has shown consistent success in the Express Funded Account, that trader will receive an email to move to a Live Funded Account. At that time, all open Express Funded Accounts will be closed. Here’s how it works:

1. How your Live Account size is set

Your Live Funded Account size is based on the average account size of your active and eligible Express Funded Accounts.

  • Only accounts with at least one payout are included

  • The average is rounded up to the next tier of $50K, $100K, or $150K

  • Your Live Funded Account maximum starting balance, rules, and limits are based on this capped size

Example:

You have four 50K XFAs and one 150K XFA.

Step 1 — Calculate the average account size:

(50K + 50K + 50K + 50K + 150K) ÷ 5 = 350K ÷ 5 = 70K average

Step 2 — Determine your Live Funded Account tier:

Your average of 70K rounds up to the 100K Live Funded Account tier.

This becomes the maximum starting balance of your Live Funded Account and determines the rules and limits for your account.

2. How you scale in and scale up

When you’re called up to Live, 20% of your Live Funded Account starting balance is available to trade, and the remaining balance is set in Reserve. It then unlocks the remaining balance in in 25% performance-based milestones until the full available balance is unlocked.

You can read all about our Live Funded Account Parameters here.

Can I move from the Express Funded Account to the Live Funded Account at any time?

Our Risk Managers monitor all traders in the Express Funded Account and may reach out to move you to the Live Account at any time. This decision is made at Topstep’s discretion, based on your performance. Approval is discretionary and based on overall trading behavior.
