Retrieving Handicap Indexes from GolfNet

Updated over 4 months ago

This feature is available for the following products:

There are two ways to retrieve and update Handicap Indexes from GolfNet/Golf Canada:

  • Updating Handicap Indexes in the Master Roster and Event/league Roster

  • Propagating Handicap Indexes from the Master Roster to Event/league Roster

In this article, we will discuss both options.

Updating Handicap Indexes:

If your player's Handicap Indexes are maintained by GolfNet/Golf Canada, you can quickly retrieve Handicap Indexes for the master roster or an event/league at any time. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Set up and enable your GolfNet/Golf Canada integration. Click Here for details on this.

  2. Access GolfNet/Golf Canada to Update Handicap Indexes for:

    1. Master Roster: In the customer center, go to Master Roster > Access GolfNet/Golf Canada to Update Handicap Indexes.

    2. Event/League Roster: Within an event/league, go to Golfers > Access GolfNet/Golf Canada to Update Handicap Indexes.

  3. Select specific players or all players using the checkboxes. Filter players by custom field and utilize the search to find players quickly.

  4. Select the update method:

    1. Current Handicap Index: Retrieve Handicap Indexes as of the current date.

    2. Handicap Index on a specific date: Retrieve Handicap Indexes from a specific past date.

    3. Lowest Handicap Index: Retrieve the lowest Handicap Index that each player has had in the past 3, 6, or 12 months regardless of the number of rounds recorded.

    4. Lowest Handicap Index over specific date range: Retrieve the lowest Handicap Index that each player has had for a specific date range regardless of the number of rounds recorded.

    5. Average of: Select two or more Handicap Index types (e.g., Current, Lowest H.I. in past 3/6/12 months, etc.) to be averaged into one Handicap Index (as shown below).

  5. (Event/League Only) If you have multiple rounds, select the round you would like to update Handicap Indexes for. That round and all following rounds will be updated unless updated have been turned off for that round. For more details on turning off handicap updates for a specific round, Click Here.

  6. Click "Update".

The handicaps for the selected players will then be updated for the event or league (as shown below).

The "Status" column will indicate if the player's handicap was successfully updated. Successfully updated players will highlight in green. Unsuccessful update attempts will highlight in red. Unsuccessful attempts are usually caused by incorrect GolfNet/Golf Canada ID numbers and missing GolfNet/Golf Canada ID numbers. If a player is highlighted in yellow, the update was still successful, but the player names do not exactly match between Golf Genius and GolfNet/Golf Canada.

The "H.I." column will display the change in handicaps before and after the update. You can also print the update report on the top right, which will show all the player's old and new Handicap Indexes. It will also show if their update was successful or unsuccessful.

Note: If you run a weekly league, and meet the following parameters, you can use the automatic re-fill feature:

  • Created divisions/flights using Playing Handicap or Handicap Index.

  • Re-fill the divisions/flights after every Handicap Index update.
