When playing a 666, 333, or 99 Tournament using multiple formats, there are two methods of stroking a scorecard:
Allocation strokes for the subset of holes played
Allocate strokes based on the full card stroke allocation table
These options can be found by going to Event/League > Event/League Profile > Handicap Settings (as shown below).
In this article, we will discuss both options in detail.
Allocate Strokes for the Subset of Holes Played:
Using the World Handicap System (WHS) handicapping, the following process is used:
Using the 18-Hole Stroke Allocation Table as the guide, re-allocate the strokes to create separate allocation tables for every format (666 example below).
Divide the unrounded player or team (if playing alternate shot or scramble) Course Handicap by the number of formats being played. For instance, if playing a 666 tournament, divide by 3.
β
(Note: If playing a 99 tournament, the Front 9 and Back 9 Slope and Ratings will be used to determine the full Course Handicap. If Front 9 and Back 9 Slope and Ratings are not entered in the Course Details, then the 18-hole Slope and Rating will be used instead).Round the divided Course Handicap to a whole number to determine the Playing Handicap for each format.
Example (using the table above):
Player A and B are on a team for a 666 tournament. They will play Alternate Shot (Foursomes) on holes 7 thru 12. Their unrounded 18-hole Alternate Shot Course Handicap is 11.237. Dividing 11.237 by 3 (and rounding), their Playing Handicap for the Alternate Shot format is 4. They will receive strokes on holes 11, 8, 7, and 9.
When setting up this type of tournament, check out the Handicap Analysis to view the full details.
(Note: If you are not using WHS handicapping, the team Course Handicap is rounded in the beginning of the process.)
Allocate Strokes Based on the Full Card Stroke Allocation Table:
When using this option, the full stroke allocation table is used. In other words, the strokes fall where they lie on an 18 hole card (for each format).
Example (using the table below):
β
Player A and B are on a team for a 666 tournament. They will play Alternate Shot on holes 7 thru 12. Their full 18-hole Alternate Shot Course Handicap is 11. For holes 7-12, they will receive five strokes (holes 7,8,9,10, and 11). In other words, their Playing Handicap for the alternate shot format will be 5.
