Hole Options when Creating a Tournament

Updated over 4 months ago

When setting up a tournament, there is an option to select what holes are to be used for the tournament as shown below.

If you are looking to create a tournament that is more randomized, like a ONES or TWOS format, or blind/random holes, you are probably looking for the "Balls Selected by Hole" option. For more details on selecting random/specific holes over all 18, Click Here.

In this article, we will discuss all of the available options:

9 Holes (Front or Back):

If you are setting up a 9-hole tournament where some players are playing the front 9 and some are playing the back 9, select this option.

Front 9 or 9 Hole Course:

If the tournament is being played only on the Front 9 of a course, then select this option. Or, if a 9-hole course is being played, select this option.

Back 9:

If the tournament is being played only on the Back 9 of a course, then select this option.

Both 9s:

When selecting this option, the field will play 18 holes and there will be two separate competitions. A Front 9 competition and Back 9 competition as show below on this leaderboard.

In the example leaderboard above, Beck+Collins tied for first place in the Front 9 competition by scoring -21. However, they came in 2nd place for the Back 9 by scoring -19.

Both 9s with Partner Swap:

This option is for "pair v." tournaments. The field will play 18 holes and there will be two separate competitions. A front 9 competition and back 9 competition. On the front 9, players 1&2 will be partners and players 3&4 will be partners. On the back 9 they will switch. Players 1&3 will be partners and players 2&4 will be partners.

18 Holes:

The most popular option. The tournament will be played using all 18 holes on the course.

Nassau (9/9/18):

This option will create three separate competitions. A front 9, back 9, and overall (18 hole) competition as shown on the leaderboard below.

Above is an example of a Four-Ball Match Play Nassau where each match is playing for $5 on the front 9, back 9, and all 18.

If you are distributing points/purse for the nassau, keep in mind that the points/purse you enter will be distributed for each competition as shown below.

Take a look at the stroke play example above. The first place pair will earn 100 points, second place will earn 75, and third place will earn 50 for the Front 9, back 9, and overall. So for the tournament, a total of 675 points will be distributed.

Advanced Ball:

The Advanced Ball options lets you get very specific and creative with your tournament's ball and hole selection. In order to use the Advanced Balls option, the competition needs to be foursome v. field, foursome v. flight, team v field, or team v flight competition. (You can also use advanced balls for fivesomes and sixsomes.) For complete details on using the Advanced Ball option, Click Here.

36 Holes (continuous):

More typically used for match play, a 36-hole tournament played continuously using the same pairings. Click Here for details.

54 Holes (continuous):

Same as the last option, but over 54 holes instead.
