A tournament is defined as a competition played within an event or league. Common tournaments include Stroke Play tournaments, Skins tournaments, and Match Play tournaments. Tournaments are sometimes played within a single round (18 holes or less) or over multiple rounds (multi-round tournament). Multiple tournaments can also be played concurrently in a round.
Our system provides extensive support for various types of tournaments. Because of our robust scoring platform, it is important to fully understand all of the options and always test the leaderboard.
To set up a single-round tournament, go to Rounds > Tournaments > New Tournament.
To set up a tournament over multiple rounds, go to Event/League > Multi-Round Tournaments > Add New Multi-Round Tournament.
In this article, we will discuss the tournament setup options (as shown below).

Name:
The name of the tournament will be displayed on the leaderboard. If you do not name it, we will create a default tournament name.
Rounds (Multi-Round Tournaments Only):
If setting up a multi-round tournament, it is important to select the rounds to be used. If the multi-round tournament is being set up in a league with a large number of rounds, you may be asked to select a series. If all the rounds in the league are used for this tournament, then select "All Rounds." Otherwise, you will need to create a series and select that series here.
Divisions:
If you have divisions created, you can use them to set up the tournament. When selecting a division, only the players/teams within that division will be used for that tournament. "All Golfers" Division is always available and includes all the golfers. If you select multiple divisions for one tournament, a separate leaderboard will be created for each division.
Select a Team or Group:
If you have created a team list or group, you can use them for the tournament. Keep in mind that you may not even need to create a team list for a team-based tournament. Click Here for an explanation on why.
If selecting a team list, you will need to select whether or not the tee sheet is organized by team. The tee sheet is considered to be organized by team in the following cases:
If players in positions 1 and 2 are on a team and players in positions 3 and 4 are on a team in each pairing group.
If all the players in a pairing group are on a team.
For instance, if the tournament is Four-Ball Match Play, the tee sheet will need to be organized by case #1.
Tournament Format:
The following options will be available in the Tournament format section:
Team Scores will Include:
Note: This option is only available if you've selected a team list.
If a team list is used for the tournament, and you have defined that the pairings are not physically organized by team (as shown below), you can select "Best Team Players" or "All Team Scores." You will only select "Best Team Players" if you are playing a College Scoring type format where you count the best X total player(s) scores within a team. In all other cases, select "All Team Scores."
If a team list is used for the tournament, and you have defined that the pairings are physically organized by team (as shown below), you can select "Best Team Scores" or "All Team Scores." The only time you will select "Best Team Scores" is if you are playing a Team within Teams Scoring type format where you count the best X total scores of the pair(s) or foursome(s) within a team. In all other cases, select "All Team Players."

Payout to:
Note: This option is only available if you've selected a team list.
You will have an option to payout points/purse to each player on the team or to award the team collectively. If you'd like the leaderboard to display the payout by individual, you will want to payout by players. If you want the leaderboard to display the points/purse payout by team (e.g., Ryder Cup), select payout by teams.

Format:
While Stroke Play and Match Play are the most frequently used formats, We offer many different formats. They include Stableford, Quota, Basic Skins, Aggregate Skins, Silk Skins, Canadian Skins, Ringers, Eagles, Birdies, Deuces, Treys, and Nassaus. (Note: If you have selected the option of 9 or 18 hole score entry in the Event/League Profile, you will be restricted to only the Stroke Play format.)
Competition:
Who is playing against whom? These options change depending on the selected format and whether or not a team list has been selected. The numbers in parentheses describe the player positions in each pairing group. For instance, (1v3 & 2v4) means the player in position 1 in the pairing group plays against the player in position 3. The player in position 2 plays against the player in position 4. For details on all the Competition options, Click Here.
Balls:
What balls are to be counted towards the scores? Different options are available depending on the competition selected. Click Here for details on all the available options.
Advanced Balls:
Note: This option is only available if the competition is foursome v. field, foursome v. flight, team v field, or team v flight.
The is an option in the "Balls" selection dropdown. When using Advanced Balls, you can create and customize what balls to be counted and when for your tournament. (You can also use advanced balls for fivesomes and sixsomes. If that is the case, still select foursome v field). Click Here for more details.

Handicap & Handicap Allowance:
How are Playing Handicaps to be computed for this tournament? There are different handicapping options available depending on the format and Balls to be counted. We always suggest visiting the Handicap Analysis to ensure the Playing Handicaps are being computed as expected. For information on all the handicap options, Click Here.
When No Opponent(s):
Note: This option will only show if you set up a match play format.
If a player does not have an opponent for the round, will they win by default, or are they playing against par? For instance, if singles matches (1v3 and 2v4) are played in this pairing group.
Linda will either win by default or play v. par, depending on the option that is selected. This option also works for Pair v. Pair (1&2 v 3&4) match play tournaments when a pair has no opponents.
Selected Round(s) (Multi-Round Tournaments Only):
Drop the worst round or rounds for each player/team. Say, for instance, it's a 54-hole aggregate stroke play tournament where you count the best 2 out of 3 rounds. If that is the case, select "Best 2" rounds, and the worst round of the 3 will get thrown out.
Drop Worst Holes (Single Round Tournament Only):
"Throw out" the worst holes in a round for a player or team. Keep in mind that the worst hole(s) will be dropped in relation to par.
Tie-Breaking:
How would you like ties broken throughout the entire leaderboard? If you'd like only to break the 1st place tie, then select the "retain ties" option and manually break the tie by adjusting the leaderboard after the tournament is complete. If setting up a multi-round tournament, the tie-breaking will be applied in the final round. For details on all the tie-breaking options, Click Here.
Payout (Purse & Points):
You can award points and purse to the players and team by division and flight (if necessary). Click Here for all the distribution options. For details about excluding amateurs from payout distributions, Click Hereβ.
