How can I run an eclectic (ringerboard) from a specific tee?

Updated yesterday

Q: In our league, we run an eclectic (ringerboard), but we also allow golfers to play from any tee they wish. Is there a way to set up an eclectic that only counts rounds a golfer plays from a specific tee?

For example, only rounds played from the red tee for women and the white tee for men would count for the eclectic leaderboard.

A: Unfortunately, there's no way to set up a ringer that automatically counts rounds a golfer plays from a specific tee. However, it is possible to set this up, but it will require some manual work at the round level. We suggest reading this article first before deciding whether to use this setup.

Note: If the tee is a forward tee, golfers who play from the back tee disadvantage themselves, and it may not be necessary to do this setup.

Initial Setup

To set up an eclectic that you can manage in this format, you must take the following actions at the beginning of the season:

  • Create a Division that includes the golfers playing in the eclectic. Note: The fewer divisions you have, the fewer times you'll need to remove a golfer from a round-level division if they play from a different tee.

  • Create a multi-round tournament that utilizes the division with all golfers participating in the eclectic.

Once the season begins, you'll need to manually manage the division. You will need to monitor each round and check every player that participated in the eclectic to verify which tee they played from. Note: It might be easier to identify players who played from a tee not part of the eclectic to verify if they are participating.

In-Season Steps

Follow these directions to manage your division. When going through this process, make sure you are reviewing the pairing and the round division from the same round:

  1. Check the pairing for a specific round by navigating to Rounds > Select a Specific Round > Edit Existing Pairings. Identify who played from a tee that is not allowed for the eclectic. Create a list that can be easily referenced.

  2. Now, manage the division for the eclectic at the round level by navigating to Rounds > Select the Specific Round > Round Divisions/Flights/Teams. Note: During the season, you must manage players from the round-level division, not the league-level division. If you remove a player from the league-level division, you are removing them from the tournament.

  3. Click Edit Membership for the eclectic division.

  4. Reference your list and click the red "X" for the player who played from a tee not part of the eclectic (as shown below).

  5. After the appropriate golfers have been removed, click Save to apply the changes. Golfers who have been removed from a Round Division will have the round removed from the eclectic leaderboard.

  6. Repeat these steps for every round that is part of the eclectic.

Important Notes:

  • The division must be established at the beginning of the season to ensure it is in sync with each round.

  • You can add players as the season progresses, but do not sync prior rounds.

  • If a player was added to the league division during the season, all prior rounds will show the Round Divisions/Flights/Teams as "out of sync." This is normal, as a player was added to the league division during the season.

  • Once the season is in progress, do not click Sync All Divisions/Flights/Teams at the round level, as this will re-add all players in the league-level division to the round-level division that may have previously been removed.

  • If you do click Sync All for a round, you will need to review the pairing and round division to remove the players from the round division as outlined in the steps above.
