What is the Autogain System on the DataBank with Cyclops-7F?

What does 100x, 10x, 1x or (Low, Med, and High) mean on a Cyclops-7F with DataBank?

Updated over 2 months ago

The DataBank has an Auto Gain feature. When selected the DataBank will automatically select the best gain for the sample being read. This is because the Cyclops-7F sensors can be used to collect data in any of 3 gain settings. Each gain setting has its own range of concentrations. Gain setting refers to the sensitivity configuration of the sensor. There are three gain settings: X1, X10 and X100. As the gain increases, the sensitivity increases and the concentration range decreases. When connected to the DataBank it will appear as words.

  • The 100x gain is the most sensitive and is used for very low concentration detection but offers the smallest overall range. On the DataBank it is indicated as LOW.

  • The 10x gain is the most appropriate to use if you are unsure of what is best for your specific samples. This gain has good minimum detection limit as well as a good detectable range of concentrations. On the DataBank it is indicated as MED.

  • The 1x gain is the least sensitive and is recommended for utilizing the complete range of the instrument. On the DataBank it is indicated as HIGH.
