Overview

When a Shopify listing has an error that prevents it from listing, it will appear in the Attention Required tab of the listing manager until the underlying issue is manually corrected.

This article walks through common error messages in the Listings>Shopify>Attention Required tab, along with troubleshooting steps to clear each type of error.

Table of Contents

Best Practices

  • Check your Attention Required tab on a daily basis and fix errors as soon as possible to list items to the marketplace

  • If clearing older items from the attention required tab, double-check that the item is still in your inventory

How to See Detailed Error Messages

The Attention Required tab of the Listing Manager has a column that displays the full error message describing why a listing failed.

In addition, hovering the mouse cursor over the red “Listing Failed” or “Relisting Failed” icon will provide a tooltip with info about why the listing failed.

Common Errors

Error: {"handle": ["has already been taken"]}

Why This Happens

This error can occur when a user creates a listing which shares a url with an already active listing. Our system attempts to avoid this but this can still occur if handles are modified in Shopify.

How to Fix

Navigate to this listing in Shopify, and modify the end of the URL in the URL handle field. This is located in the ‘Search engine listing’ section at the bottom of the page.

Error: {"product_tags": ["is invalid"]}

Why This Happens

This error typically occurs due to forbidden or special characters within a tag, or other formatting issues that are not compliant with Shopify's tagging system.

How to Fix

Go into the failed listing. Within the Shopify section at the bottom of the page, observe any tags that include forbidden or special characters, and remove them.

Error: {"error": ["Product does not exist"]}

Why This Happens

This may occur when Lister attempts to relist a product after the product has had its handle modified or if it was deleted.

How to Fix

Attempt to relist the product from Lister again. This should push the listing through with the current handle again, and recreate the product in Shopify.

Error: Not Found

Why This Happens

This may occur when Lister attempts to list a product and due to a communication error during transit, the listing fails.

How to Fix

Attempt to list the product from Lister again. Please contact support@uprightlabs.com if you continue to have this issue when attempting to list.

Uncommon Errors

Error: Unavailable Shop

Why This Happens

The "Unavailable Shop" error typically occurs when Lister attempts to access or interact with a Shopify store via the API, but the store is unavailable.

How to Fix

  • Verify Store Status

    • Log in to your Shopify admin and check the status of your store to ensure it's active and online

  • Retry the Operation

    • Once you confirm you store is operational, please retry listing the product

If you continue to encounter this error after confirming your store is active, please reach out to support@uprightlabs.com.

Error: Location is deactivated

Why This Happens

This can occur if a location has been modified or removed and was associated with the listing.

How to Fix

  • Verify Location Status

    • Log into your Shopify admin panel

    • Navigate to Settings > Locations to check the status of the location referenced in the failed listing

    • If the location is deactivated, you will need to activate it before proceeding

  • Retry the Operation

    • Once the location has been verified and activated on Shopify, you should now be able to list the product from Lister

  • Alternatively, you can modify the location in the failed listing:

Error: {"collection": ["can't be blank"], "collection_id": ["must belong to …"]}

Why This Happens

The error arises when Lister attempts to interact with or modify a collection, but encounters issues due to missing or incorrect collection information.

How to Fix

Go into the failed listing and ensure that the custom collections field is not blank or incorrect.

Error: {"error": ["unknown Shopify error"]}

Why This Happens

The error arises when Lister attempts to list a product to Shopify, but an unknown error occurs during the process.

How to Fix

Attempt to list the product from Lister again. Please contact support@uprightlabs.com if you continue to have this issue when attempting to list.
