πŸ”„ How to Reassign a Terminal in Adyen

Learn how to reassign an Adyen terminal to a different store or move it back to inventory within the Customer Area.

πŸ”Ž Step 1: Locate the Terminal

  1. Log into Adyen

  2. From the left-hand menu, select In-person payments

  3. Click Terminals

You can locate the terminal by:

  • Typing the serial number in the search bar

  • Navigating to In-person payments β†’ Orders and returns to find the original order and access the device from there

β˜‘οΈ Step 2: Select the Terminal

Once located, you can initiate reassignment in three different ways:

πŸ—‚ Option 1 – Bulk Reassignment (Best for Multiple Devices)

  • Click the small checkbox next to the device model

  • A menu will appear at the bottom

  • Select Reassign

βš™οΈ Option 2 – Device Settings Page

  • Hover over the terminal line (it will turn blue)

  • Click the device

  • You will be taken to the device's Settings

  • Click More options

  • Select Reassign

β‹― Option 3 – Three-Dot Menu

  • Scroll to the right on the terminal row

  • Click the white box with three dots

  • Select Reassign

All three methods lead to the same reassignment workflow.

πŸ“Œ Step 3: Confirm Reassignment

After selecting Reassign, a pop-up titled Terminal Reassignment will appear:

If your terminal(s) are currently boarded, please be aware that all reassignments will only be effective after your terminal(s) synchronize with the Adyen platform.

Click Got it!

πŸ” Step 4: Choose Reassignment Type

You will be given two options:

πŸ“¦ Back to Inventory

  • Terminals assigned to inventory cannot be boarded

  • They cannot process payments

  • Use this option if the device will not be used for an extended period

πŸ’‘ What to Do When a Merchant Returns a Working Terminal

If a merchant returns a working terminal, do NOT submit a return to Adyen. Valpay does not take equipment back from partners. Partners have two options:

1. Reassign the terminal to your own partner account inventory (e.g., Bridge_Payments) β€” This is the preferred approach. Keep the device available for deployment to a new store. Partners are encouraged to refurbish and redeploy working terminals rather than returning them.

2. Submit a support ticket to support@valpay.com β€” Valpay can move the terminal to the Valpay company inventory on your behalf if needed.

Per Adyen, terminals are only removed from inventory when physically returned to Adyen's warehouse or reported as lost/stolen.

πŸͺ To Store

  • Terminals assigned to a store can be boarded

  • They can process in-store payments

  • Use this option if the terminal is currently in use or will be used soon

Select To Store if reassigning to a new location.

πŸ” Step 5: Select the Store

After selecting To Store, the screen will change to Choose Store.

  • Use the search bar to search by:

    • City

    • Address

    • Store ID

Once a valid store is selected, it will display the store ID and address for confirmation.

Click Next.

βœ… Step 6: Final Confirmation

You will be asked to confirm:

  • The number of terminals being reassigned

  • The Store ID they are being reassigned to

Click Next to complete the reassignment.

You will then see confirmation that the request has been submitted.

⏳ Step 7: Wait for Synchronization

After reassignment:

  • The terminal will display "Reassignment in progress" (in yellow) on the Terminals page

  • You must wait until the reassignment is complete

  • Once complete, you can re-board the terminal under the new store

Reassignment does not take effect until the terminal synchronizes with the Adyen platform.

If you need assistance reassigning terminals or are unsure which option to select, please contact your Account Manager or email support@valpay.com.
