Invoicing on The Oblist

How vendor invoices to buyers, Oblist commission invoices, and payouts fit together on the platform. Amounts in internal tools are generally tracked in euros (EUR) unless your order was placed in another display currency.

Written by The Oblist

1. Your invoice to the end customer

As the vendor, you issue the commercial invoice to the buyer for what they paid for your items—including your share of shipping when it is split on the order.

  • The invoice must match the transaction the customer sees on The Oblist (products + the shipping attributed to you).

  • Address the invoice to the customer (name and address on the order), not to The Oblist as if Oblist were the buyer.

  • Include a copy of the invoice in the parcel when you ship, unless your workflow with Oblist support says otherwise for a specific case.

You prepare and track these documents under Invoices in the vendor dashboard (https://pro.oblist.com → sidebar Invoices). Statuses such as Draft, Finalized, Sent, and Paid help you see where each customer invoice stands.

Tax on the customer invoice (VAT, etc.) is your responsibility as the seller of record for that B2C sale—keep it aligned with your own legal and accounting advice.

2. Oblist commission (what the platform charges you)

The Oblist charges a commission on product revenue, not on shipping lines.

  • The system identifies shipping rows (titles such as shipping / delivery / shipping quotes, etc.) and excludes them from the commission base.

  • Refunds on product lines reduce the base used for commission.

  • Your commission rate is the one on your vendor contract (the code uses 35% only as a default when no custom rate is stored—your account may differ).

Orders in non-euro currencies: product amounts are normalised to EUR for commission using the order’s conversion rate and, when the order currency is not EUR, a fixed coefficient applied before conversion (so the net base can differ slightly from a naive “multiply by spot FX”).

Illustrative example (35% rate, shipping excluded from commission):

Line

Amount (example)

In commission base?

Product

€1,000

Yes → commission €350

Shipping

€50

No → €0 commission

So Oblist’s commission ex. VAT is €350 in this example; it is not 35% of €1,050.

3. VAT on the commission invoice (Oblist → you)

The commission invoice (platform invoice) is a separate document from your customer invoice. VAT on that commission is calculated with Oblist’s automated tax engine (jurisdiction depends on your company address, VAT / tax ID on file, and the rules loaded for the invoice). It is not a single fixed “20% for everyone in France” rule in code—rates can vary by situation.

Use your dedicated help article Understanding VAT on The Oblist for detail, and keep your Billing / Tax ID section of the dashboard up to date so invoices stay correct.

4. What you receive (net payout) and when

After a sale, money flows in two conceptual layers:

  1. Customer payment is processed through the platform’s payment setup (you remain responsible for shipping the goods and issuing the buyer invoice).

  2. Oblist commission (plus any VAT on commission) is recovered through the platform invoice / payout workflow in EUR.

Your net amount for the order side of that workflow is roughly:

Sum of your product lines (converted to EUR, after refunds) minus commission ex. VAT on those lines (shipping excluded from the commission base).
The commission invoice total you owe Oblist may be higher than commission ex. VAT if VAT applies on the commission.

Timing is not “the second the buyer receives the parcel.” Payout eligibility depends on logistics and cooling-off rules in the platform—for each line, the system tracks delivery and applies a return window after delivered status:

  • Standard catalogue goods: 14 calendar days cooling-off after delivery.

  • Made-to-order products: 3 calendar days after delivery.

There is an additional delay window after that cooling-off period before items move to the final “waiting delay” state used for some due-date calculations. Exact eligibility labels (e.g. waiting for delivery, cooling-off, ready for payout) are visible on your Payments page when you review platform invoices and payout status.

Operational payout execution (bank transfer timing, Stripe transfer confirmation) happens after those conditions are met and finance processes the payout—vendors@oblist.com can explain a specific invoice if dates look wrong.

5. Reconciling your books

  • Customer invoice total (products + your shipping) should match what the buyer paid for your lines.

  • Platform commission invoice should match Oblist’s fee plus any VAT on that fee.

  • Net bank movement should tie to the payout line in Payments (EUR in the internal stack; your bank may show another currency depending on Stripe/bank—see Vendor payouts and currency if you split that topic in the help center).
