How to Price Your Products for Success on The Oblist

Learn how to set premium pricing on The Oblist that reflects your product's value and aligns with the platform's curated ethos.

Written by The Oblist

Pricing your products on The Oblist requires a strategic balance: ensuring your prices reflect the quality, craftsmanship, and exclusivity of your items while staying competitive within the curated marketplace. Here's how to achieve that:

1. Highlight Your Product’s Value

The Oblist customers appreciate design, exclusivity, and craftsmanship. Price your products to reflect:

  • Artistic Uniqueness: Emphasize if your product is handmade, part of a limited series, or features rare materials.

  • Design Story: Share the inspiration, process, or cultural significance behind your product in the description.

Example: A limited-edition chair crafted from sustainable wood, with an intricate hand-carved design, justifies a premium price due to its uniqueness and eco-conscious appeal.

2. Start with Accurate Cost Calculations

Base your pricing on key components:

  • Production Costs: Include materials, labor, and packaging.

  • Shipping Contributions: For decor objects, please incorporate an estimation of the shipping cost into the price to avoid surprises.

  • The Oblist Commission: Ensure The Oblist’s commission is factored in.

  • Taxes and VAT: Calculate taxes applicable to your region and include them in the final price. No added taxes are going to be added at the checkout.

  • Advanced Pricing by Market: Because pricing and availability can vary by market, vendors can choose which markets each product is offered in, and can select specific markets and set individual prices for each selected market through the “Advanced Pricing by Market” section on each product page in the dashboard.

Important: Pricing can be influenced by shipping policies. For decor objects (non-furniture items under 15 kg), before submitting your pieces and going live, please ensure that your pricing covers shipping costs when necessary, for example in the case of free delivery.

The Oblist will not cover shipping costs after an order has been placed.

3. Benchmark Within The Oblist Ecosystem

Analyze products within your category on The Oblist to gauge pricing expectations:

  • Align with Premium Offerings: Match your pricing with similar high-quality and exclusive products.

  • Highlight Differentiation: If your product offers something distinctive (e.g., cultural heritage, rare techniques), it can command a higher price.

4. Embrace Premium Pricing Strategies

Unlike mass-market platforms, The Oblist encourages sellers to emphasize exclusivity and craftsmanship through their pricing. Avoid practices like charm pricing (€99.99). Instead:

  • Round Numbers: Use whole, rounded figures (e.g., €300 or €1200), which communicate confidence and luxury.

  • Create Tiered Pricing: Offer variations of the product (e.g., standard and premium finishes) to cater to different customer segments.

5. Consider Offering Complimentary Shipping

For premium items, customers expect a seamless experience. Incorporate shipping costs (totally or partially) into your pricing and advertise complimentary shipping for eligible products.

6. Monitor and Refine Over Time

  • Sales Data: Use your seller dashboard to analyze performance trends and identify whether pricing adjustments are needed.

  • Customer Feedback: Track any comments or reviews that hint at perceived value mismatches and adjust accordingly.
