When can a product be marked non-returnable?

How Accept Return works for standard, Made-to-Order and genuinely customised pieces without overriding mandatory consumer rights.

The Accept Return setting in the Vendor Dashboard controls the voluntary return policy shown for a product. It cannot remove mandatory consumer rights.

Standard goods cannot be made non-returnable for EU/EEA and UK consumers

For deliveries to consumers in the EU/EEA or the United Kingdom, standard goods generally carry a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal.

This includes:

  • In Stock products;

  • vintage pieces; and

  • Made-to-Order pieces produced to the seller's normal specifications, without choices made specifically for the buyer.

For this reason, the dashboard locks Accept Return to Yes for vintage pieces and New Item + fixed-stock products.

When “No returns” can apply

For EU/EEA and UK consumers, the withdrawal exception applies only when a piece is genuinely made to the buyer's individual specifications or clearly personalised—for example custom dimensions, materials, finishes, colours, engraving or another buyer-selected configuration.

The fact that production starts after the order is placed is not enough by itself. A standard Made-to-Order piece remains a standard good when it is made to the designer's usual specifications.

Outside the EU/EEA and United Kingdom, selecting No can opt the piece out of The Oblist's voluntary change-of-mind return policy, subject to any mandatory rights in the buyer's country.

Issues that are always covered

Whatever the product setting or destination, No returns never removes remedies for a piece that is:

  • faulty or defective;

  • damaged in transit;

  • significantly not as described;

  • the wrong item; or

  • affected by another mandatory consumer guarantee.

How to set the product correctly

  1. Open the product in the Vendor Dashboard.

  2. Go to Price & Inventory.

  3. Set the correct inventory mode and product classification.

  4. Use Accept Return = No only when the legal note shown below the field matches the actual piece and destination policy.

  5. Describe every customization choice and limitation clearly on the product page.

If you are unsure, do not promise that a piece is non-returnable. Continue in the Vendor Dashboard chat with the product link and customization details.

The Terms & Conditions, especially sections 10, 10bis and 17, remain the legal source of truth.
