Disturbed by Loud Noise from Neighbors?

What to do if you’re hearing excessive noise from nearby units.

Updated yesterday

We’re sorry your stay has been disrupted by noise — your peace and comfort are important to us. Here’s how to address it:

Step 1: Assess the Situation

  • Stay calm and determine what kind of disturbance it is — e.g., loud noise, parties, harassment, smoking, etc.

  • Record the details (time, duration, and nature of the disturbance). If possible, make a short video or audio recording for documentation (only if it’s safe and legal to do so).

Step 2: Inform the Host

  • Contact the host immediately.

    • Politely explain what’s happening.

    • Provide evidence (recordings, timestamps, or messages) so the host can take action.

    • Example message:

“Hi [Host’s Name], I’m currently experiencing loud noise from the neighbors next door. It’s been going on for [duration] and making it difficult to rest. Could you please help resolve this?”

  • Give the host a chance to communicate with the neighbors or the building management.

Step 3: Contact Us

If the host doesn’t resolve the issue or if the disturbance continues:

  • Contact Vidle Housing Support

  • Explain that the disturbance is affecting your stay and that the host hasn’t been able to fix it.

  • We may offer:

    • Mediation with the host.

    • A partial refund

    • Rebooking assistance to another property.

🚔 Step 4: Contact Local Authorities (if serious)

If the disturbance involves:

  • Harassment, threats, violence, or

  • Noise continuing late into the night (violating local noise ordinances),

then contact local authorities (non-emergency police or local noise complaint line).

  • Example: In many cities, noise complaints can be made via 311 (in the U.S.) or local council hotlines.
