How Monthly Payments Work for Longer Stays

Vidle Housing specializes in mid-term housing, and many reservations last for multiple months. For longer stays, payments are divided into monthly installments rather than requiring the traveler to pay the entire reservation amount upfront.

This guide explains how monthly payments work for travelers and hosts throughout a longer reservation.

How Are Travelers Charged for Longer Stays?

For reservations lasting multiple months, travelers are charged according to the payment schedule associated with their reservation.

Instead of paying the full cost of a multi-month stay upfront, payments are divided into monthly installments throughout the reservation.

The traveler can review their reservation details and payment schedule to see upcoming payment amounts and dates.

When Is the First Payment Processed?

The initial payment is processed as part of the booking process. A reservation is not considered fully confirmed until the required initial payment has been successfully completed.

If the initial payment is declined, the traveler may be prompted to update their payment method before the reservation can move forward.

When Do Hosts Receive Their First Payout?

For the initial reservation payment, Vidle Housing releases the eligible host payout 24 hours after the traveler's scheduled check-in.

This brief security hold allows time to confirm that:

  • The traveler successfully checked in.

  • The property is accessible.

  • There are no immediate habitability concerns.

  • There are no immediate fraud concerns affecting the reservation.

Once released, the payout is sent through the host's connected Stripe account. Depending on Stripe and the host's financial institution, it may take additional business days for the funds to appear in the host's bank account.

How Do Monthly Payments Work After Check-In?

For a longer stay, future monthly payments are processed according to the reservation's payment schedule.

Each monthly payment is associated with the existing reservation, allowing travelers and hosts to keep track of payments throughout the stay.

Hosts receive eligible payouts through their connected Stripe account after the corresponding traveler payment has been successfully processed.

Is the 12% Host Fee Charged Once or Every Month?

The 12% Vidle Housing host fee is deducted from each monthly payment throughout the reservation.

For example, if the monthly rent is $2,000:

  • Monthly rent: $2,000

  • Vidle Housing host fee (12%): $240

  • Estimated host payout: $1,760

The same 12% host fee applies to each monthly reservation payment.

What Happens If a Future Monthly Payment Is Declined?

If a future monthly payment cannot be successfully processed:

  • The traveler may be notified and prompted to update their payment method.

  • The related host payout may be delayed until payment is successfully collected.

  • Vidle Housing may contact the traveler to help resolve the payment issue.

  • The host should not independently cancel the reservation or take action against the traveler without first contacting Vidle Housing Support.

If the payment issue remains unresolved, Vidle Housing will review the reservation and determine the appropriate next steps.

Can a Traveler Pay Off the Entire Reservation Early?

If a traveler would like to make an early payment or pay a remaining balance ahead of schedule, they should contact Vidle Housing Support to determine what options are available for their reservation.

What If the Reservation Dates or Monthly Amount Change?

Changes to reservation dates, pricing, or other reservation details may affect future payments and host payouts.

If a host and traveler agree to modify a reservation, contact Vidle Housing Support so the changes can be properly documented and the payment schedule can be reviewed.

Do not arrange changes to reservation payments outside of the Vidle Housing platform.

Are Processing Fees Charged on Monthly Payments?

Applicable traveler processing fees may apply to payments made throughout the reservation. Any applicable fees will be displayed as part of the payment process.

Hosts do not pay the traveler's 3% credit or debit card processing fee or applicable ACH payment fees. The host's separate 12% Vidle Housing fee is deducted from eligible host payouts.

Keep All Payments on Vidle Housing

All reservation payments must remain on the Vidle Housing platform.

Travelers and hosts should not use:

  • Venmo.

  • PayPal.

  • Cash.

  • Wire transfers.

  • Other off-platform payment methods.

Keeping payments on-platform ensures there is a clear payment history and allows Vidle Housing Support to assist if a payment issue or dispute occurs.

If you have questions about an upcoming monthly payment, payment schedule, declined payment, or expected host payout, contact Vidle Housing Support.

Our team can review the reservation and provide the most up-to-date payment information available.
