Prerequisite: A Vimcar device (dongle or box) must be installed in the vehicle.
To track a vehicle on the map, you must add the vehicle in Fleet and activate the geo features for the vehicle. Tracking begins after you have activated the geo features and the vehicle has made at least one trip. The Vimcar device needs electricity to be able to send the GPS signal. As GPS is more precise when the vehicle is moving, tracking is more accurate when the vehicle makes a trip.
Note: You can only track company cars with the explicit permission of the driver. The driver can turn off tracking in the Vimcar driver app.
If you deactivate the geo features, you will not see the vehicle on the map. In the route history and the route history export, trips are marked as “Private” and you only see the distances driven in miles.
Activate or deactivate the geo features
You can activate or deactivate the geo features when you create the vehicle, or later in the vehicle details.
Click the menu item Vehicles.
In the vehicle overview, click on the vehicle to open the details.
In the Main information section, click the slider Activate Geo features.
Remember, after activating the geo features, the vehicle must make at least one trip. The vehicle is only visible on the map after the first trip.
If you activate the geo features for a company car, the slider Activate Geo rights for Drivers is automatically activated and you cannot deactivate it.
Allow drivers to deactivate the geo features
You can allow pool vehicle drivers to temporarily deactivate tracking for the vehicle in the driver app. Company car drivers can always deactivate tracking.
Prerequisites:
You have added the driver as a user in Fleet and granted access to the vehicle.
The driver has downloaded the Vimcar driver app on their smartphone. The app is available in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
In the vehicle details, click the slider Activate Geo rights for Drivers.
View a log of tracking activations and deactivations
If you have allowed drivers to turn off tracking, you can view a list of all the drivers who deactivated or activated tracking. This can be useful, for example, in the following cases:
You can see if drivers turned off tracking at times when it was not agreed that they may do so.
You know who to contact if a driver forgot to turn tracking on again. Only the driver who turned off tracking can turn it back on.
Click the menu item Map, then click the menu item Change log.
